    Positive vibes to all.

I though the discussion about images and remebering was very interesting - I've always found that I can visualise words much easier than pictures...as for numbers I just seem to be able to remember them after a first glance - an example was the day before yesterday some one had emaled me anumber to check admittedly only three digits but then yesterday someone else asked what the number was and before I knew it I'd said it out loud (and got told I was sad for remembering it :().

As for Mnemonics I quite often make my own up but one that always sticks with me is ho to spell because Big Elephants Can't Always Use Small Exits.

I also remember these already mentioned Colours of the rainbow = Richard of York gave battle in vain = red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet

Notes on the treble and bass clef = Every Good Boy Deserves Football; Good Boys Deserves Football Always

But I do agree with MG about remebering people to remember words - I can remeber at school I could never get the pronoucination right on the French Janvier (January) until I realised that it sounded a bit like my crushes name at the time so till this day I still say it as I'm saying his name rather than the month and it still makes me smile.

    Sending positive vibes!

Interesting discussion about how we remember - I've always been convinced that I remember sounds more easily than pictures - e.g. I remember a phone number by the sound pattern of the numbers, not the physical pattern on the phone.. I think!

Ploughing through lots of work-work today but also trying to think what to do as far as my next steps in studying Philosophy go - the course that I was really keen on isn't running this year, so I'm a bit puzzled as to what to do.

scottishlass! I just remembered another one of mine - how to tell the difference between savoir and connaitre - connaitre is for people, and I had a great auntie Connie who I never met - so its je connais Connie.

    Seemples, as MG would say!

Squizz - do you have an end goal in mind that gives an indication to you about what you could go for?

you are stationARy if you ARen't going anywhere but when you sit there wondering what to write and going ER, then you are using stationERy (or not, in the case of a blank sheet of paper)
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Had an interesting discussion on my course the other week about how other languages have these different words for 'to know'.. someone pointed out that we also have 'savvy' and 'ken'...

Re the course - I really need to finish my degree. The options seem to be OU - which would leave me with a not-entirely-Philosophy degree and probably not a great classification. Or London - who don't do credit transfer so I'd have to start from scratch

Learning is not fun for most children, think thats the problem in schools. We have a system that relies on SAT's and testing and all children educated to a certain standard, very little is tailored to the individual childs needs, the classes are too big...........etc, the list gos on.
Emphasis is placed all the time on exam results, test results, keeping up with other children in the class.
And Homework, don't even get me started on that one.
I don't agree with homework for any age group. Call me unrealistic and living in the dark ages but my view is that I did not sned my child to school with chores to do from home (imagine the righteous indignation if a parent did that). SO where does the system get off sending children home with work to do from school. Children don't get the chance to be children anymore, that time is so precious and they grow up so quickly anyway, why should they have to spend their precious free time doing extra schoolwork.
Children go to school to learn, so keep the learning with in school hours. Because of the way society is evolving, its losing its sense of family, doing things with the children, eating together, even having a simple conversation.
Obviously this isnt the case for everyone, but I know people who have the TV on 24/7 and use it as a babysitter, or console games.
Tv's and consoles are great things in moderation. But the simple things that used to entertain children are relics now.
This is just my opinion and I know its pie in the sky, we have to have rules and guidelines etc., but perhaps when learning becomes fun , instead of just another necessary chore, children will find it inspiritational.
I remember being at school and hating the constant repetition at primary, secondary was a little better. but I would lose myself in books as a voracious reader, anything from the Chronicles of Narnia to the Classics. My speedreading was self taught. I have the most useless fund of trivia in my brain because I soaked up everything I read.
I still believe knowledge is power, although a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
lol thats my rant over now
