Thats because the missing link is reviewing the information.
96% of new information is lost within 24 hours ..................UNLESS
you do some kind of review process.
So I kind of agree with Cameron that we could educate ourselves out of a recession - but unless we actually remember what we are being taught it will just be a collossal waste of precious pennies.
Interestingly, yesterday a senior bod at ST A uni contacted me wth a colleague from another local Uni. They are looking into the feasability of offering 3 year degrees as opposed to 4.
My first thought was an MSE one - great only 3 years of student loans instead of 4.
Their conclusion was the only way the students could be equipped to do this - and get great grades - would be to do a course that really teaches them in the way the brain likes to remember - and they don't feel the kids coming out of hgh school currently could do this unaided. Will be interesting to see where this goes.
I also chatted to them about their entrance interviews - they actually admitted that they actively ask the students do they use mind Maps, have they studied "learning how to learn", do they understand the review processes of the brain? Apparantely I would be offered a place then - LOL

As a wee aside - I made up my own way of remembering the organisation of living things in biology when I was about 14 (many moons ago) & is still sticks with me today - the real order is Kingdon,Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus & Species but I remember the first letters by - Karen Pours Coke Over Four Good-looking Scouts
And the football kits should be on their way to me from Leeds - no idea what quantity but I do like surprises.....
Have a good day folks

Good morning
I've got my work cut out for me todayI've been trying to catch up on washing, but everyday this week I've had a wet bed to wash and dry too (not sure whether I have said on here, ds2, has accidents in the night) This morning I have 2
he wet his last night then snuck in with me when dh went to work and wet mine too
went through the waterproof sheet, through my memory foam matress topper and onto the matress, I've bleached both the topper and the matress, topper is on the radiator and theres a heater in the room drying the matress
.
I don't seem to be getting anywhere with the de cluttering either, I'm doing bits but its not looking like I have done anything. By the time I clean the house I'm too sore to do anything else, (hopefully this will change when I have the injection)
Ds1 is home today, so I have told him he can help.Boiler pot £30.92/£10000 -

Thanks for your replies. I do most of the time have to sit down with her to complete the homework but this can get tricky when I have a younger dd looking for attention aswell, so I think I will try the writing it out for her. Everything is worth a try.
MG what is NLP?
An opposite approach here, I'm very much into developing the ability to learn independently, so I will help with showing them techniques to use and examples, or point them towards where to look for information, but I'd never write out a child's homework or do it for them. The only exception would be for a severely dyslexic child who isn't able to write it themselves or some other similar reason.
It gives them reasponsibility for their own work and the results, and also helps them develop the skills for independent learning in later life.0 -
Claire, have you taken him to the docs about the bedwetting - there are all sorts of things they can do to help...?0

Claire, sorry to hear about your bad start to the day. Do the MG 15 minutes at a time, and you'll soon crack through it all.
As for the decluttering i find these things take time, and a lot of the time it takes ages to see the results. But don't forget all the wonderful work you have done to the house, and if you check back through your posts you said yourself that your home is much improved these days and you feel better about it. So it's not all bad!
Put some music on and have a 15 minute boogie as you sing and dance and do you work, betcha you'll feel more positive in no time!
In the meantime ((hugs))

I feel compelled to say something here although thye extent to which this will be a contribution is debatable. I have always had a rather exceptional memory and untill now I never questioned how do I do this - I don't think I have photographic memory but...When I was in my teens I attended English language school - which meant very intesive language tuition and studying most subjects in English. In year one we used to get up to 200 new words a day and I only had to read them once (OK probably twice) and I knew them (and still do so interestingly I do have a very extensive vocabilary in my third language, English, and I am not a good linguist).
Now I have started questionning - because I started forgetting things. A good friend of mine claims that this is stress - still I have become more aware of technique with age (although I agree that just like in love too much focus on technique can lead to impotence). I was astounded by the ease with which Little Boy and I learned and remembered the first ten elements of the periodic table on a plane. And it was fun - so that he kept wanting to try again and as a result I think he has learned them forever. Also, Little Boy (who is 93/4) took one of MG's book - it was just around and I did not offer it to him; I wanted him to want it. He has been reading bits of it - not sure how many of the techniques suggested have sunk in but it has had another effect. He has decided that learning is not only good (he always liked school) but also that it is fun and that it is OK to say it is fun. He dazzled our friends in Lausanne (they have two older kids) with his knowledge and he loved every moment of it.
So I reckon, educationally he is off - because if someone loves to learn you can't stop them. Then you don't have to take the hourse to the water - he feels thursty and he is seeking the water. And I, who obviously is very pro education and believe that knowledge is 'good' not simply 'useful' feel calm and do not worry about Little Boy's education and future. I stopped worrying about schools either - but this is down to personallity as well.
Now the diversion has been exhausted and I have to get back to work.

Had to smile when I read this. My son did this on a regular basis when he was young! I tried everything to stop these accidents and then when he was about 11 it just vanished.

Hi Claire, sorry to here your having a bad day. I agree with tellmeitsfriday, if he has not been to the docs he needs to go. It may be physical or just something worrying him. It must be upsetting for him so thats going to cause him stress in itsself. I hope it stops soon for both of you, hugsSew it, knit it, glue it, reuse it , don't buy it0
