  • You'd have your work cut out with me MG.

I have spent all day convinced it is Tuesday, forgot to go to work, (lucky it's voluntary) and did remember in the end, only a teeny bit late!! Started to walk to school in my slippers and forgot the dinner and burnt it, and this is a good day! :rotfl:

Neuro Linguistc Programming - works on everything from phobias to goal setting, but most powerful for quickly changing your attitude towards stuff. As an alternative to say a talking therapy.

I used it to get over some post traumatic stuff after an assault - but then used it to get over loads of not useful stuff that causes low grade blah's in my life. Recently used it with DS1 who has serious overeaction to bees after a bee sting.

So uses are from huge phobias to little annoyances.

Worth googling for more info ................... anyone here know a practicionner who can advise on how to proceed.

Thanks for your replies. I do most of the time have to sit down with her to complete the homework but this can get tricky when I have a younger dd looking for attention aswell, so I think I will try the writing it out for her. Everything is worth a try.

spud - do what my sister did last week (her son is dyslesic) she had to fight tooth and nail at junior school to get him tested now hes at high school and doing german !!! as you say he can barely do english . ring your school and ask to speak to learning support ,ask for a face to face meeting . I went along for moral support (or my big gob as sister said Hmm) , we asked could he be removed from german as he gets upset and struggles, answer was that yes if we harassed them enough ,but they like to give everyone a chance ,also ask for support in german - he has had a teaching assistant in with him since and also been taken out of some classes to have extra help with his learning needs , they have also told all his teachers to make sure his home work is legible lol my sister could not read what he'd put and newphew couldnt remember . I have to say they were great and were sorry they had not got to him yet as one term in they were still gathering info on who is officialy dyslesic ( junior school had not sent his report up so they didnt realise he had such a problem ) and those whos mum's just said they were dyslesic , but maybe had other problems . so ring that school up and get him on their radar and get the help he has a right to xx

    Thanks No Pennies.

My lad has never been diagnosed as dyslexic. Round here, it's more or less impossible unless you go privately. The only diagnosed children I know it has cost hundreds at places like the Dore Centre then thousands for the treatment.

He's year 8 now, and in year 7 he was given lots of support, both after school and in timetabled sessions. In year 8 he's had nothing so far.

I think I'm going to have to make an apointment to meet with school as you suggested. I dread things like this because I tend to get a bit emotional when it comes to my kids :o

Maybe its because I don't have a *huge* problem remembering normal things ... and my exam days are long over.... I guess I'm a little concerned .... I was really apologetic about posting my query, and Craftyscholar felt she shouldn't post it (I love the Ancient Greek studies, btw!) surely there's room for queries? I use mnemonics, some of which are my own, some general. I always thought I was a visual person, but maybe I'm not, not compared to people who actually are.

Fantasia - I like it! Pleasant association, yes please!

NLP - I mentioned it first, because it seems to be really helpful with present day issues, developmental things, rather then deep seated past trauma - in my experience, its not suitable for that. A present day difficulty with homework (and to me its really sad that an 8 year old has homework, I know that shows my age!) sounds just right.

That made me laugh out loud, and made me feel a bit better about my day :D.

But in all seriousness what you do fascinates me and although I love the idea of mind maps I can't draw for toffee, (serisouly i got a detention in school as my art homework was so bad, they thought i'd done it in the 5 minutes before the lesson started) so it scares me a bit too.

But i love the "mind" side of it and how it all works, could someone (read me) go to one of your courses, even though i do not need to learn mind mapping for anything particular i.e studying/work etc?

Ooh I love other people mnemonics - always fascinated by acronyns for remembering stuff too. Kids especially get really creative.

Of course my problem is spelling the blessed things correctly in the first place :rotfl::rotfl:................. but most people can.
