Thanks Cherry and Karmacat. I would love to be able to diss the teacher, but he hasn't actually done anything wrong, dd has been like this for a few years, but it's only now as she is getting closer to secondary school that I realise she needs a lot more help and encouragment from me to be able to cope not only with scholl but with what life is going to throw at her.

I suppose in the last few weeks I've had a good look at my parenting skills and have realised I may not have done the best for dd, by doing things for her and muddy cuddling her.

Ahhhhh why did nobody tell us parenting would be so hard.

caz, I think taking a break when the situation gets *so* emotive is a good idea, so good for you for walking away. How about your DD? How old is she? Hormonal, low blood sugar, hates the teacher? Maybe something like mindmapping or NLP work could really help.

Thats interesting! I always need to know the theory/principle behind something if I'm to make it work for me - so, knowing the theory that Madeleine is used for feminine words would really help me.

But this particular place is where I really don't get this kind of memorisation - and I'm sure you've heard it at *least* ten thousand times, MG, and I really apologise. But I just don't get how having to remember a picture helps you to remember a word. In my head, that equals *double* the amount of stuff to be remembered .... can you help?

Ten thousand and one actually :D

................ and for the answer you will need to come on a course :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Actually, if you think about it - everything you remember you remember because you have a picture of that thing in your head.

If I say "chocolate" - I betcha what you don't see is a black word on a white surface. Instead you will imagine your favourite bar, smell the delicate scent, hear the rustling of the purple foil (mmmm) and maybe even begin to salivate as you imagine a piece of chocolate melting on your tongue.

We naturally create these multi-sensory movies to evoke memories - all I do is how people how to use what they naturally to consciously create strong memories than they can recall again easily.

So although the langauage builder process may seem long-winded, the kids learn 100 words in a session with really high retention. The teacher says they are lucky if they have that kind of retention after 18 months of traditional teaching - so seems like a no-brainer to him.

Memories - created from imagination + association.

So make pictures of what you want to remember and attach it to something you already know...

Caz - I know everyone will expect me to say something different, but I really think this might be a case of your daughter needing to change her associations to learning. NLP may indeed be they way forwards, because as you say, she does learn, there's just a drama whilst she does so.

What do you guys think about me getting these little short courses filmed instead - do you think parents would be interested?

MG.. Ohhh its just taken me 5 minutes to stop myself craving chocolate. Then I read your post but the tapping and imagining chocolate mixed with something gross has worked.
