I will always be able to remember the French for tablecloth now!!
But why is neuter a waiter and masculine a mime artist? I would tend to get those confused - because a waiter (as opposed to a waitress) is always masculine whereas a mime artist could be eitherIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
If I say "chocolate" - I betcha what you don't see is a black word on a white surface. Instead you will imagine your favourite bar, smell the delicate scent, hear the rustling of the purple foil (mmmm) and maybe even begin to salivate as you imagine a piece of chocolate melting on your tongue
Do you have to:eek:

But this particular place is where I really don't get this kind of memorisation - and I'm sure you've heard it at *least* ten thousand times, MG, and I really apologise. But I just don't get how having to remember a picture helps you to remember a word. In my head, that equals *double* the amount of stuff to be remembered .... can you help?
I have never seen how learning a lot of images as well as the thing they were supposed to remind me of was better than remembering the things themselves.Memory_Girl wrote: »Actually, if you think about it - everything you remember you remember because you have a picture of that thing in your head.

We naturally create these multi-sensory movies to evoke memories - all I do is how people how to use what they naturally to consciously create strong memories than they can recall again easily.
Memories - created from imagination + association.
So make pictures of what you want to remember and attach it to something you already know...

spud - do what my sister did last week (her son is dyslesic) she had to fight tooth and nail at junior school to get him tested now hes at high school and doing german !!! as you say he can barely do english . ring your school and ask to speak to learning support ,ask for a face to face meeting . I went along for moral support (or my big gob as sister said Hmm) , we asked could he be removed from german as he gets upset and struggles, answer was that yes if we harassed them enough ,but they like to give everyone a chance ,also ask for support in german - he has had a teaching assistant in with him since and also been taken out of some classes to have extra help with his learning needs , they have also told all his teachers to make sure his home work is legible lol my sister could not read what he'd put and newphew couldnt remember . I have to say they were great and were sorry they had not got to him yet as one term in they were still gathering info on who is officialy dyslesic ( junior school had not sent his report up so they didnt realise he had such a problem ) and those whos mum's just said they were dyslesic , but maybe had other problems . so ring that school up and get him on their radar and get the help he has a right to xx0

When I was a kid, I didn't like writing. I don't know why, I just refused. You know like some kids have selective mutism, I was like it with writing.
The only way I would do it was for me and mum to do my homework together. We'd talk about what I wanted to say, she'd write it down for me, and then I'd copy it out. This went on until I was about 15.
The poor woman did this every day for 10 years - I am of course so grateful to her, and I feel that my essay writing skills are so much better because of it...
However, I beleive it was because I didn't like making mistakes.... Like the rubbings out referred to up there..
As soon as someone introduced me to a computer, and I could think on screen without scribblings, my fear was gone...
I actually still don't like physically writing, and I have pretty neat writing really, but of course I do it...
My ramblings are for a reason - would it help to write her thinkings out for her and then she copy it out??
Back in my box xx0 -

Memories that are memories of things that have happened - yes.
Creating 'fictional' memories ???????
False memories can easily be created - thats why eye witness testimoy and identfication can fairly easily be discreditted in court. The brain actually doesn't care if the memory is of something real or not - after all we have been visualising all the cool stuff we are working towards and we already have the good feelings and expectations.
And, no, I might think of a piece of chocolate when I hear the word chocolate, but not the TV ad you describe.

Thanks for your replies. I do most of the time have to sit down with her to complete the homework but this can get tricky when I have a younger dd looking for attention aswell, so I think I will try the writing it out for her. Everything is worth a try.

I'm starting to get this I think,............!!!!!!
especially something pleasant can evoke memory as in smelling a fave food, automatically makes your mouth water, kinda thing
or hearing people talking about food can evoke hunger etc.,
Almost as in Pavlovs dogs, who learnt that the ringing bell meant food, they eventually automatically slavered when they heard the bell even though no food was given?
So convert the item to be learned to a mental picture (or a drawn one) and it sinks nto the conciousness much quicker...............?!!!
Ok..........wrong.....(I usually am):mad::rotfl:
I'll get me coat.
image linking through pleasant association makes it easier to grasp the concept, is what I was getting at. Go me, or not as the case maybe0
