MG just to second what everyone else has said about your sales person. Good sales people are essentially just very good with people as 'people buy people'. They build up trust and people like them so buy from them, at the most basic level. They are also very money motivated, thick skinned and can break things down into smaller targets which they will LOVE working towards. They get really fired up and can self - motivate. I have worked with lots of good sales people when I repped so again would be happy to help with this...I have also worked with some awful ones back in the UK so no the how not to as well! Just an idea but most sales people are naturally very competitive so it might be an idea initially to have a couple of sales people who you can gently pit against each other...they will both want to win and so go all out to generate sales for you which is WIN,WIN.

They have passion, an amazing network of people, neurolinguistic skills. Self belief, an understanding of the K.P.I's and targeted market they are working with.
An understanding of Pareto and the 80/20.
More than basic knowledge of net-working and media networking.
People skills, listening skills and interpersonal skills.
Knwledge of the market is key because knowledge is power.

And ususally a good financial incentive is key because people are basically. 'whats in it for me'
Not my forte but for someone, what an opportunity
And I'm no sales person just think the above is common sense.

Thanks hon - that has really helped pull together some random ideas for me. Its a big challenge for me today

    Hi

I used to work in recruitment and assessment centres for a large bank (ducks)

Although its a couple of years since I did this, I am happy to help with the recruitment side of things.

From memory this is the kind of "Person Specification" that I would look for in a successful Sales Person.
    • Excellent comunication skills
    • Personable and confident- People buy from people
    • Self motivated
    • Able to set goals and targets for themself, putting a clear strategy in place as to how they are achieved.
    • Break down what needs to be done into chunks/milestones with clear tracking & monitoring
    • Resiliant with a "Can do" attitude. Can over come obsticles and set backs- Looks for solutions rather than giving up at the first hurdle until they can achive what they have set out to do.
    • Creative- Can see and create an opportunity and explore different options.
    • Motivated & excited by achieving goals and targets
Thats off the top of my head, I'll have a root around and see what kind of info I have that might help.

I'd be happy to pull some questions to help you sort through the candidates, and give you tips on how to interview them, depending on the level of response you get of course. ( I used to train Area Managers in Assessment Centre Techniques , ie how to run Competency Based Interviews, Role-Plays, Group exercises etc)

Just as I was thinking that at 8 months Preggers I had nothing to offer the Matrix, the universe asks for my skill set! X

At 8 months gone I could never have pulled together a competent post like that????

Just goes to show how we have all got stuff we can share.

So we are going to have another wee member to the matrix :j Is there anything we can help out with?

See, we all have something to offer :D

I remember when my sister was trying to go back to work after bringing up her family, which seemed to leave her with zero confidence, so we went through what she did daily. Amazing what that came up with serious skills that can be put to use in an awful lot of jobs. Budgeting and Logistics are two I can remember quickly but maybe Winky could expand on this to help others going back to work?
