Any Excel experts out there? I'm doing a city on MG's spreadsheet but it won't open, wants to download a new version of Excel which I don't want to do as its OH's work PC I'm using. Soooo I can't see headings etc and don't know what I'm doing. Am off to try it on an old lap top which takes ages to load but will check back to see if anyone has any ideas. Ta x

Ok have downloaded a compatability pack and can now open the spreadsheet so fingers crossed

PS Mainly because it all happened so quickly IYSWIM

Boring legal thingies - you need to get Memory Champion's Training Ltd listed ASAP.

You need to shuffle the risk away from you personally to your company as soon as you can

    Lecture over :) x
  • TMIF, my OH keeps telling me about this - less risk of being a company versus self-employed - but I can't find anything about it - could you explain it to me please? Especially if just one person, not a partnership or whatever.

Also, with the turnover you are anticipating VAT registration will come in to it (even if you are not a Ltd Company).

ETA - Just checked £70k turnover means you have to be registered for VAT. And I think that means you need to register if you expect to reach that figure.

As an sole trader or partnership you are personally liable for ALL the debts of the business.

As Ltd or plc, the business is a legal entity that has shares. The shareholders are only liable for the value of their investment. Unless of course you are asked to give personal guarantee's by the bank or a supplier (which you MUST try not to do if at all possible).

A LOT of businesses out there have shareholding (or investment) of £100!

Wikipedia says it much better than me:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_liability

Limited liability is a concept whereby a person's financial liability is limited to a fixed sum, most commonly the value of a person's investment in a company or partnership with limited liability. In other words, if a company with limited liability is sued, then the plaintiffs are suing the company, not its owners or investors. A shareholder in a limited company is not personally liable for any of the debts of the company, other than for the value of his investment in that company. This usually takes the form of that person's dividends in the company being zero, since the company has no profits to allocate. The same is true for the members of a limited liability partnership and the limited partners in a limited partnership.[1] By contrast, sole proprietors and partners in general partnerships are each liable for all the debts of the business (unlimited liability).
