Going from a sole trader to a Ltd Co you would decide what share capital you want to issue. Some of that could be things you are giving the company (A computer for example, which would be an asset) so maybe your balance sheet would start with an asset of £500 and a shareholder fund of £500 to balance that out so you have not actually parted with any cash IYSWIM
As the company makes money (income less costs = profit) the value of the company increases by that amount (unless you take it out as a dividend payment).
Very basically:
Assets are:
Equipment/Vehicles
Stock
Debtors
Cash
Liabilities are
Creditors
Bank Loan
Taxes
The difference between these are shareholders funds made up of:
Share capital
Profit
Reserves
Less dividends
But I may be getting too complicated :rotfl:
Too further complicate things, for tax reasons it may be that you pay yourself a small wage but take more money out as a dividend from the profit.
