Thanks for all your responses earlier on:

Maty Moo - Yip ds is a clever clogs; he is definitely at the G&T end of the spectrum academically. He left primary school with 3 level 5As but his grades just plummeted through secondary school till we got to the point where we were just glad when he would walk into the building. His GCSEs were a Btec in IT (=4 GCSEs); double science (2); English; Maths; RE plus one other.(?) He chose English, RE and Psychology for A Levels not because he enjoyed them but because the classes were small, quiet and non-threatening :(.

I would love for him to go on an enterprise programme but his social skills / confidence are next to non-existent. This is someone who won't answer the phone; the door; who crosses the road just so that he doesn't have to pass another person:(:(:(.

Yes, I can definitely see myself working for him - establishing all the infrastructure and support systems that enable him to “do something with 'puters” :rotfl:.

Loving the developing Apps idea – I'll run that past him.

Se999 & teapot2 Thanks for the link. I've heard of this firm before but unfortunately we are on the Isle of Man, not in Scotland. The island has very limited Autism support services. Guess we'll just have to move over to Scotland or maybe to Silicone Valley in the USA :D.

No Pennies I hope this comes over the way I mean this and does not offend anyone. Ds does not have special needs / learning difficulties as traditionally seen in the media. I have found over the past 18 months that social services have not known where to place him and they have grouped him adults with Down's Syndrome; classic autism with learning disabilities; alcoholism and depressive illness – all completely inappropriate for a young lad with high functioning Autism. To try to give you an idea, ds is very like Moss in the IT Crowd or like the early Chloe O'Brien in 24.

Oceanspirit Yes, I think I'm definitely going to have to have a business portfolio – for my own sanity.

A big thank you to everyone for their input, you are all stars - definitely stuff to chew on there.

Right off to refill my glass :T

orry not been on much this evening - but I have been getting my head around the new forum stuff.

I think the next step will be that Matrix members will be emailed with a link and a unique password to allow them to pop over and register. That way the forum is kept completely private and you will be free to witter to your hearts content :D

Means I now have to collate another list - but I will give you all a heads up as I start emailing you all so yu can keep a look-out.

But I am so weary so I think that will have to be in the morning;)

Just been looking at Kit 4 kids on FB. Should we have a link to the collection email address on there in case anyone falls across it and may have football shirts?

    Hi,

I know this might be a random comment but I have just read Jodi Picoult's new book (House Rules) which looks at High Functioning Autism. It deals with the topic very well but I wondered if she had any information on her website with links to groups etc. I have seen her speak and she does a great deal of research before writing.

Just though it might be worth a look.

I have taught a number of children with autism and they have been some of my best students, as long as you are aware of their needs and routine. I had to let a young man into my classroom before anyone else so that he could check everything was in its place before the other students came in.
