Good grief, 3 days away and it's all happening here!
(((((claire and son)()))))))) how utterly rotten. I can't believe a grown man would be so childish  Sounds like the police are dealing with it well though
MG - Stick Sheffield on your World Tour! We've got a spare room if you want one! And York too (just work there, haven't got a room there sadly but I'm sure we could sort you out with one if necessary!) Happy to do postering and organising and drumming up enthusiasm to the best of my ability
Will PM you
Yay to all the kits 4 kids stuff! :j Firewalker is right - the matrix is the news! :j

Hey all
Another amaizng day or two for MG's Matrix and loads happening. I keep lurking & reading but want to be on the journey with you - not on the sidelines, so pls count me in!
Am happy to do anything re the kits4kids - am generally quite cheeky at asking for things so happy to do ring rounds or a begging letter. Think the idea for getting the SA captain on board is a brill one and would definately add a newsworthy twist to it.
Hope to talk to you all more... fra x0 -
Have Just PM'd MG and mentioned that I have requested I be allowed to send a generic email or forces bulletin to every police officer and member of staff within the force that I am working for. I am hopeful the answer will be yes in which case we will have a whole police force full of officers and staff with children with outgrown kit to donate... whoop whoop watch this space!!debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0

Ok, I have sent out emails to all of my contacts for the shirts, my profile on FB says I need Kits4Kids (might change it to 10000 smiles)
I have found a contact address for the Kaiser Chiefs http://www.kaiserchiefs.co.uk/contact.php. I am happy to do some phoning/writing to anybody that is required.
Apologies but I am going into work gear here. OK here goes. If this project, and this is our first full on matrix project, is to succeed:-
- We need an action plan
- we need somebody to take the lead on this project. MG - you have enough on your plate if you dont mind me saying so. And different people volunteering to take the lead on certain admin bits - such as:-
- we need a table of some description to manage who is doing what, when, where and why for the kits including a list of who we need/want to contact in the public eye. We can then share the list out for people to do nominate themselves for specific calls and update with responses.
- we need to keep track of where we are up to with the collection of the kits
- we need a plan of how we will get all of the kits to the collection point in UK -where will the collection point be, who will be organising it, will it need to be managed
- I am sure there are more things to think about so we need a focus group meeting - any ideas of how this can be done? Skype, on line meeting of some kind? MSN etc
Phew, that felt good. Sorry but I am a big believer in working smartly. If we are going to make this work we need coordination.
Dare I suggest that we set up our own forum attached to the blog that we can have different topic headings so that we can keep track of what is going on? I am not a whizz on the web but I do know that there are some forum tools that can be set up for minimal or no cost. Any one got any thoughts on this.

I think this is a great post. My immediate thoughts are that this is Olive's 'baby' and the matrix are making this happen.
You are right a table or list of things to be done with volunteers would be a good start.
As Olive is not UK based then a UK co-ordinator would be good if this would be helpful.- Keeping track of kits - could the country be split up into areas and one person volunteer to keep a count of kits collected? Say Scotland, Wales, NI, North, Midlands, London and South.
- If kits are going by sea then a collection point near Southampton or by air near Heathrow?
- To chat Skype has an MSN type chat or there is MSN or FB. I'm sure a meeting could be done on chat as long as someone plays chair and has the list of topics to discuss.
- I have had a quick look at free forums - there are a few about and one could be made with the ref 'memorygirlandfriends' like the blog. I don't know which ones are good or bad, but I could pick out useful features. I'm sure a simple one could be set up. Or temporarily another DFW diary for this Matrix quest (as this thread moves so fast that it is difficult to keep track). Any experts out there?
- Other thoughts on getting kid to depot ... does anyone have contacts with UPS or Eddie Stobart (trucks) to find out if parcels could hitch a ride as they travel around?

Hey You NorthrnLas, get back out of lurkdom. We need all the help we can get.
The person I asked for help left this message for me
If someone could send me the words/logos/etc. you want on the poster, I'll happily do some designs. You could then email to whoever wants them as PDFs. Olive - as NL said this is your baby, what do you want in the poster? Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Oh Good Morning Matrix :hello:
We had a thunderstorm last night :j So I couldn't really keep on-line, but I'm at my computer today.........:p
There are some BRILLIANT ideas flooding in :A I feel overwhelmed. Last night I had a vivid dream of wetting myself in public places(Like that ghastly skit on Little Britain :rotfl:) I've assumed that it subconscious telling me that I'm losing control :rotfl:
I'm a dreadful at delegating, so that should be a lesson to me
I'll try and put my thoughts down, have had lovely supportive PM's too so here are my random jottings. (BTW Do you think we started this the wrong way round???? Should we have had a structure in place first????? Is Christmas too early???)
1) Facebook page - I think this is a good idea, but I'm not facebook literate.......Physical address in Jo'burg is available.
2) DD has just finished her masters and has agreed to be the UK agent.....but she works in a nightclub and I'm having trouble speaking to her at the moment - I'll give her until Monday to get things moving then she's sacked if there's no improvement :rotfl:
3) Collection point -I'm  at the lack of response, but perhaps Firewalker is right, I should aim for 3 rejections........:o So another e-mail now.
4) Ellidee that link/film description is lovely. I printed it off for Popeye last night, the children reminded me of the ones I meet here - heart-warming.:)
5) Thanks Cherisong (I wrote a note on my pad to thank you - and can't remember what for :rotfl: my brain is too full.:rotfl:)
6) Claire I Will be ordering shortly -sorry about the lack of feedback I love the angelsYellow looks awful against my skin so probably won't succumb to the ducks unless as a gift.
I'm sorry if I'm not too much helpThere's a lot going on here too, but I'm getting politics and negative, draining comments from some people here. (Certainly NOT the guys at the Orphanage) Then I get on here and there is a general Can-DO attitude that is so refreshing and inspiring, :A and I am the negative one thinking "but I can't"

I agree with Cheri that we need to get some infrastructure in place before we go big.
I was all set to e-mail Leeds United's press office this morning offering them the chance to get involved and asking them to pass the story on to Lucas Radebe. I even had a local people side to offer them as my first donation was from a 13 year old girl & Leeds season ticket holder who gave me the first Leeds shirt she had ever had. She'd wanted to keep it forever but gave it up for the South African orphans.
I was going to ask them (as a minimum) to put the appeal in their programmes & have a collection point in their shop but then I saw snags. Leeds regularly gets 20,000 fans at a home game so if 10% responded we are talking about 2000 shirts. Multiply that by 20 or more other football teams and we are talking about a lot of shirts.
If we are going big then it has to look good, we need some sort of collection box printed up that we can leave in football grounds shops and sports shops so strangers can donate without bothering the shop staff. We need a website to refer people to, I know Olive is working on the South African one but we could do with a purely Kits 4 Kids 4 Christmas Appeal one.
Above all we need to be able to reassure people that we are genuine and competent and a) aren't going to rip people off and b) can handle donations.0 -
Random thought whilst making the boys breakfast:p:p
Don't know any freight carriers (but my Dad might so I'm calling him when he will be up)
Anne Gloag - of Stagecoach - is always sayng that Entrepreneurs need to give back and is involved in setting up schools in Africa.
Now she has the perfect "matrix infrastructure" of her buses gong all over the country that could be used to "Ship" the football tops around the UK.
Local Buses - go to local depots - drive cross country to larger depots - end up in big cities !!!:T
....................... or have gone crazy??
And Olive - I think Christmas is the perfect target - precisely because it is so close and squeaky - gets people moving together and quickly. Yes the planning need to happen, but if we sit about waiting for "everything"to be perfect it will be next year before we collect strips. The dream is 10,000 smiles for Chrsitmas remember?
RB was the one who said "Momentum is Everything" - actually what he said was "b****y move will you" :rotfl::rotfl:
And I kind of think the reason the Universe send us to you was to counter the "Ah..... but" attitude in SA and counter it with an "OK .... lets b****y do it"
BTW - Live Aid was done in 6 weeks!!!! and although we had a manic time, everyone got caught up in the momentum and we pulled it off - and we are still not sure how, but we did it. (Hark at me, I was only a follow-spot operator - but I did feel part of a huge thing that was all pulling in the same direction)
Midge Ure and Bob Geldof just stuck to the "this is happening and its happening then" - stubborn gets that they are.
So Mr Poster luvvie - if you could knock us up something today we'd al be very apreciative and could get them out over the weekend.
Found a PR contact that I could have a longer chat with today - he would like to know if we shoud go on "The Hour" here in Scotland. Well he thinks DS1 sitting on the sofa making a plea could be really powerful. (DS is happyt do it btw)

PS don't think we shold hive this challenge off to another thread. This is exactly the kind of thing the matrix loves to play with isn't it - its really why we are all here.FINALLY AND OFFICIALLY DEBT FREESmall Emergency Fund £500 / £500
