I don't see my parents much because they live 4 hours drive away. That was their choice, not mine. They think I should uproot my life and go and live closer to them.

I appreciate your comments and 37 years of life have proven to me that youare correct. Mum and Dad were both brought up by strict and stern parents and therefore that is the way they brought me up, and they did the best they knew how. However there are certain aspects of my adolescence and young adult hood that I really do not want to go into here which were extremely hurtful and very damaging. And that is the bit that I am rebelling from. And at 37 I ought to know better, but habits like that are hard to break. :o

And thanks for those corrections! :A

Fair comment. Mine tried to move away - they only went 25 miles though so we followed them a couple of years later! :D (That'll Larn 'em!) No reason for you to go into anything here you're not comfortable in doing so - but you've hit one nail on the head - it's a habit, and yes, it's hard to break, but with a bit of support on here, do you think you feel up to having your best shot at breaking it? Maybe try Firewalker's (I think) trick with the elestic band round the wrist, and snap it when you find yourself having a rebellious thought?

    *edit* Cross posted there!

Hope the homeopath goes well - as for the exercise thing, sounds like the gym membership is a waste if you hate it. Why not cancel the membership and swim instead? If weight bearing exercise is a problem for you, then swimming is perfect! If you enjoy, and are good at it, so much the better. Twice a week to start with then? :-)

  • Oh my goodness you lot do post quick! I might have to suspend 'real life' just to make sure I am completely up to date with this thread! I've been a lurker for a number of months and decided to de-lurk a couple of weeks ago as you all seemed so supportive and positive. I've had a really tough year this year and found myself really very lost, wandering in a landscape I no longer recognised. I still am not sure where exactly I am going but I have decided that might be ok for the time being! I have found the courage to sign up to do my MA, declutter my house - letting the light back in and get rid of objects that no longer bring me joy. I have joined the matrix, am working through Mr Big's challenges and have started to feel that my little tug boat (to borrow MG's words) might be turning in the right direction. Thank you to everyone who contributes on this thread.

Understand what you mean about parents Cricket. I adore mine, but my father was very strict and there are things I would'nt want to go into. I have dealt with them though, my issues, I can't change the past, but I was able to change, through time, the way I let them influence my life (made a series of bad choices in the name of rebellion) and managed to move past them.
I called it taking back control, I wrote a long letter detailing everything I resented, every issue I had with my childhood.
Then I burnt it and mentally said and said out loud that never, ever was I going to let it affect me again.
It was symbolic really, but from that moment on, the parents were forgiven, they were just aproduct of their own childhood. But the lesson I learned was not to parent in that style. I was'nt the best parent in the world and made mistakes too, but nothing like the ones that my own parents inherited.
On a lighter note, have just had a rummage in my 'knicker' drawer lol and its high time I invested in some 'feel-good' undercrackers.
The grey, faded, once white one's are going in the bin. Along with some matching bra's lol,
Once again, because of this thread and the subhect matter, have done some decluttering i would'nt have even thought about.;):)

So, first of all, why wait until 2011? If you buy a matching set of undies, wear them, regardless of whether it is this side of new year or not!

I have to say, this is one thing that I HAVE done since OH left (including a visit to La Perla.....the outlet shop so very MSE ). No one ever gets to see the gorgeous stuff I have, but it certainly makes me feel better, and I ditched anything that was remotely unflattering, however comfortable it may have been!!

And now, I have those little compartments in my drawer that give each item its own space. DD says that I now have knicker OCD. I say that there are worse things I could be obsessive about :o

If nothing else, I need not worry about being run over by a bus and taken to hospital......might even get a dishy doctor in the process :rotfl:

I won't be waiting til 2011 :D It's just that I've said from the start of 2011 I will ONLY wait nice underwear :D My budget at the moment doesn't stretch to replacing all of mine in one go :o Especially not when last time I was measured my bust was, er, a size 32FF and so I tend to have to buy from the 'speciality bra' range :D So between now and the new year I'll build up a nice collection slowly (and wear it as I'm going along!), but it might have to be fused in with my current collection (I am NOT prepared to wash often enough to only own one bra and 2 pairs of pants! :rotfl:)

(never heard of la perla though, must investigate!)

Look what's happened now - the entire matrix is going to start going about in fabulously supportive and cheery underwear :D :rotfl: :j

Alex is good and I prefer her boxes so you can guess where I will be ordering from next the others have taken 2 and half weeks to get here were supposed to be dispatched next business day

The website is not up and running as I have finally abandoned any hope of involving my daughter at the moment so have gone elsewhere so I am afraid it will have to be ebay at the moment it will be interesting to see if they sell on there but I am not worried if they don't it is all a learning experience.

Yes I hope the wires come too!

Have a good day don't forget your hat:rotfl:
and naughty for going out with wet hair didn't your mother never tell you not to do that :rotfl::rotfl:

crickett1234 - ((((hugs)))) You are not alone... I've spent my entire teens/adult life absolutely hating my body. I'm still massively oveweight despite loosing over 4 stones since May. I have many more to go...

Its only really the last few months I've felt accepting of my body. What changed? I started to ice skate again - something I loved to do as a child. It sounds silly but the act of re-learning how to do various figure skating moves and turns etc (while getting fitter -its a scarily good workout!) has given me an acceptance of my body I've not had before.

I don't like the way my body looks (Not sure I ever will really) but I sure as hell am not hating it anymore. In fact I'm really proud of what it CAN do! :D :j It might not be pretty to look at but it is all mine! :D It may ache and object to doing things at first but I am improving and loving that feeling of connection to my body that has been missing for sooooooo long. :D There are muscles under the blubber now! :p I just need my broken wrist to heal sufficiently so I can start up again! :rotfl:

Is there some exercise you enjoy doing (or have enjoyed in the past)? Or something you would like to do regularly that requires a bit of training or practice? Have you always wanted to walk or run a 5k race for charity, play badminton regularly, learn karate, take up zumba???? It is up to you! :p

I use Myfitnesspal to keep a track of what I am eating and exercise I do too. Keeping a food diary helps me to identify times when I'm overeating because I'm feeling low or haven't eaten enough during the day and am now at risk of a huge blow out as I'll too hungry for example. I'm Taka75 on there if you want a friend!

My goal for loosing weight and getting fitter is to be fit and healthy enough to hike the Inca trail in early 2012... it doesn't matter if I'm at my target weight or not as long as I'm closer/fitter/healthier then now. :D

No one ever gets to see the gorgeous stuff I have, but it certainly makes me feel better, and I ditched anything that was remotely unflattering, however comfortable it may have been!! I agree, comfort and style just dont mix, however really well fitting smart underwear is comfortable too - mostly

And now, I have those little compartments in my drawer that give each item its own space. DD says that I now have knicker OCD. I say that there are worse things I could be obsessive about :oGreen with envy on that!

If nothing else, I need not worry about being run over by a bus and taken to hospital......might even get a dishy doctor in the process :rotfl:
    :rotfl::rotfl:
Cherisong - what you said about underwear struck a chord with me today :D We've been talking about the fact that all of the women most of us know (well, those whose underwear drawers we know about anyway! :rotfl:) have several pairs of saggy, grey, old, holey knickers :D There's generally an excuse about wearing them as emergency ones when the others are in the wash - but if we didn't have them, there'd be other, nicer, ones that wold become the 'emergency' ones (because we all know we wouldn't actually wash any more often! :rotfl:)

Anyway, I made a pact with Mr Daffs that 2011 will be the year I ONLY wear nice, well fitting, non-holey underwear :D That doesn't mean ludicrously expensive, it just means not ancient multipacks with holes in :rotfl: I've been putting off getting measured for a new bra because I want to lose about 1.5 stones - but I've been putting that off for over a year and still haven't lost it A side effect of having a fitting and wearing the correct fit means that your posture changes, you can look as if you have lost 1.5 stones just by wearing a good quality bra so it is worth an investment even if you are planning to lose weigh:o So, like Crickett, I deserve to look and feel good NOW! So between now and Christmas, I'll be squirrelling away pennies here and there, getting measured, and finding some *nice* underwear that fits, matches, feels comfortable and looks good!

(and in case poor old Mr Daffs starts to feel misrepresented, this isn't just about titilation  :rotfl: He's always been more interested in clothes than me, is very stylish (not fashionable in the slightest, but stylish, and believes a bit of pride in your appearance gives you what he calls 'swagger' and what I might call a feeling of glamourous self confidence :D)
This is so true, I have never been fashionable but I do like style. Doesnt come so easy to me but I like to try. After all the icons of the 50s had oodles of style

I had never noticed this little trait in myself but one day when visiting my Mum (who was very poorly and we talked more than we ever had) I was showing her my new underwear selection from Ethel Austins. Her response was, "oh, you always buy underwear when you are down or bothered by something" this made me think and she was so right. Now it was never expensive stuff but it was my little treat.
Like you Hypno when my OH left I went shopping with a friend and the only thing I could think to buy was underwear. I had never bought an expensive brand before or been measured. I went into Debenhams and the lady offered to measure me (I was trying to buy a B cup when it turned out I was an E cup ). Best thing that I ever did. I now always try to wear nice underwear, it makes ME feel good. It isnt for anybody else and yes Mr Daffs is right style gives you swagger. Now Cheery, you dont need to spend a fortune, get yourself a couple of nice bits and start now. You can then ask for vouchers for Christmas and go to Debenhams or the likes to have a real treat.
Look what's happened now - the entire matrix is going to start going about in fabulously supportive and cheery underwear
