My kitchen is south facing too, i use a zapper but i hate the popping noise.
I also use the jam jar idea for wasps, but our biggest problem is moths we have hundreds of them in the summer and my Dd is terrified of them:pwould like to make it known it is not a DHN, she's dancing
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.:A0 -
our flat is on the third floor with big velux windows so tons of them come in.
they always form a 'herd' and circle around the light fittings..any ideas why!?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
I too have a south facing garden and someone once told me to keep a basil plant by the back door, they apparently don't like the smell very much!!
I've also found on this site many, many uses for a bounce sheet (for the tumble dryer) - see below:

I'm in the process of trying to 'invent' a fly repellant for the horses. My Mum said that it was reported in Horse and Hound that they (whoever 'they' are) are banning cintronella in insect repellant for horses
Anyway, I'm thinking of using strong tea, lemon infusion, tea tree, citronella and maybe lavender ....... Have you used anything other than plain citronella as covering two big and one small 'orse in neat citronella isn't going to be very economical.
(they have fly rugs on btw)Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
I live in a middle floor flat west facing and have 2 cats..hate the windows being closed but our problem here is the midgies they are a nightmare. .solution this year is to try some mesh up at the windows and see how that works:Don this day 23/05/1430

Run around like an idiot with a rolled up newspaper / tea towel & try & squash the b*gge*s. This may not be the most effective / ethical way of getting rid but it is quite a good exercise routine. By the way should you be successful with a t towel remember to wash immediately, don't want any scarey accidents!0

lmao so much at the last post..
dp does the rolled up magazine stealth attack on wasps but it freaks me out..
what if he only half kills them and they get a surge of energy and come to get us!?Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
The sticky sunflower thingies have chemical in them - prefer the sticky old fashioned arkwright type of killing or the zappers. By the way only open the windows at night when you put out the light for the daddy long legs or they will come in for the light. UGHSaving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
