Getting rid of flies
Comments

If you have a dead squirrel, you'll know about it. Bleugh - they are meant to be one of the worst on the old stinkometer! One of my neighbours had them in her attic a few years back and the previous owner of my house told me that the stench is dreadful. Maybe the critters - whatever thay may have been, just left some food in there - not themselves, that's why you can't smell anything. Here's hoping0

What will you being doing about flies this summer, sprays, sticky hanging things, what?
Boring subject I know:DWomen and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

I usually use the spray, last thing at night before going to bed.0

Not a boring subject at all. Not for me anyway, I am totally obsessed with flies as I have a south facing garden and my kitchen is always plagued with them in summer (ie as from now until the end of Sept!!). I HATE THEM grrr sorry, just had to get that out. I can cope with big blue bottles as they are easy to get rid of but it's the little pesky fast ones that drive me insane. My family do actually think I am going insane in the summer because of the flies.
Did I mention that they drive me nuts? lol
Any ideas of how to avoid them invading my kitchen would be most welcomeWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I got some sticky hangy-up things last year & they worked well in my south facing kitchen. My Mum got them for me from an old fashoined hardware shop (you know - where they still wear brown coats like Arkwright in "Open all Hours") as I couldn't find them anywhere else. Much nicer than spraying yucky chemicals all over your food & work surfaces.0

I used the sunflower stickies that just stick on a convenient window , they last 2 or 3 mths or longer and nothing lasts more than a couple of minutes in the room with them.... only downfall is all the dead flies on the window sills... YUK I can't stand to see them so end up clearing them up every day... I think I bought the stickies in Tesco but can't remember how much Two in a packet... they work very well :T :T#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

My biggest annoyance is wasps, even though they don't come out in force until August. I get an old jam jar and mix in it jam, squash, sherry (anything sticky and sweet smelling) with some water. Then I get hubby to bash some holes in the lid with a screwdriver and a hammer and I hang this by the back door. It soon gets full of wasps, flies and other things I don't know the name of! It helps to stop them hanging round if you are having a BBQ too! Its a nice environmental way to get rid of these pests.0
