Getting rid of flies

Walked into the kitchen this morning and got a face full of flies. For some reason we have hundreds of tiny flies that have invaded our kitchen.
Have tried the How Clean is Your House tip of putting vinegar and detergent in a jar (because it smells like rotting fruit and the degergent stops the flies from flying out once they have got in) but they don't seem bothered by it and have taken to sitting on the ceiling and diving at me as soon as I go into the kitchen.
Has anyone got any tips to get rid of these pesky flies?0 -
Hmmmm firstly try to work out why/how they got in... Is there a bin or compost near your window? Have you checked on your neighbour lately? (Or rather is there any chance of you finding anything dead like a bird in your loft or similar?)
I'd start with opening the windows myself and closing all other doors and leave it... If you can turn the smoke alarm off I'd try lighting a tonne of josticks in the kitchen (with the window open) - It might encourage them to leave...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Have you checked your fruit bowl?
I had some tiny black flies the other day in the kitchen and found there was a piece of fruit gone off in the bottom of my fruit bowl. Do you have a citronella candle or essential oil you could use?0 -

We had a load of the tiny black flies and discovered it was a Yukka(?) plant. The soil had them in and they like the carbon dioxide we breathe out and so always went to your face.
Removed the plant and the flies stopped!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
we live next to a farm and we have loads of flies in the loft. I know I can go up trhee with a can of fly killer, but is there something I can put up there to keep them away?0

Hi peatling,
I know it's not a nice thought, but could there possibly be something up there that has crawled in and died?
The suggestions on these older threads might help:

I had a dead bird in the chimney of a spare room in one house we lived in - it was only the flies that alerted us to the fact we had a problem so could be a dead mouse/bat etc?Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0
