Does anyone know if / where you can get a small quantity of heating oil? We're moving out at the end of Oct so dont want to put in a fill. But we also dont want to run the boiler dry and do need some hot water for baths!

Chat up a local farmer! It might be red but it burns well ;););)

I dont know where your based but many oil companies supply 20 litre drums of heating oil.

Prince Petroleum in leicester supply them, i'm not sure of the price though but its better than a large order.

I hate this time of year :( I hate oil central heating but most of all I hate the greedy ba****d oil companies!!!!!!!

We have just used the last drags in the oil tank from last year, heating has been off since March. For the past couple of years I have not been able to afford to get a 500 litre delivery in one, only just keeping our heads above water that is just the way it is, so I have 2 companies within a 50 mileish radius where I go to fill my own drums. Not the best or cheapest way to do it but has the same end result.

One of them is about 15 miles away from me KP Thomas in Pembrokeshire, just rang them to see how much it is on the pump and already it is 74.9ppl, rang the other supplier which is about a 70 mile round trip and they are 65.9ppl how can there be 9p difference like this, it is out and out greed and nothing more so annoyed

underpressure - Perhaps you could put £10-£20 a week aside, either in a savings account or just in a pot somewhere, much the same as if you were on mains gas, you would have to pay a DD every month. At least then you would have a lump sum to be able to shop around better and get better prices.

Just paid £557.64 for 900 litres inc VAT. I only have a 1000 litre tank with around 100 litres in, anyway, it seems they could squeeze in the 900, so all good.

My calculations have me running out around mid feb, but if we have a cold snap or I end up having lots of time off at xmas, it could be more like early January. Not a great time to be out of oil!!

Incidently, I put money aside each month, otherwise there is no way I could afford it.

gas electric, oil makes no odds. Prices are rising. Demand from China, interrupted supply from Middle East etc etc.

Nothing to do with your oil company

as sugested, if you paid for gas monthly/quarterly you'd might still struggle but at least you'd spread the pain. Oil is no different. It's basic budgetting.

Sounds a very expensive way to do it, what with your petrol on top. Get together with neighbours?

One of them is about 15 miles away from me KP Thomas in Pembrokeshire, just rang them to see how much it is on the pump and already it is 74.9ppl, rang the other supplier which is about a 70 mile round trip and they are 65.9ppl how can there be 9p difference like this, it is out and out greed and nothing more so annoyed
Might as well ask why my local 24 hour corner shop charges 72p for a can of beans when I can get one from Asda for 22p.

I'm afraid now that the USSR has broken up, and China has introduced 'communism with Chinese characteristics' (!), there are no socialist states left to emmigrate to. So you'll just have to accept free market capitalism!

Underpressure, I just checked prices for my folks house, they are further East than you near Carmarthen and the price I am getting online at heatingoil.co.uk is 61.95ppl. I also checked a Pembroke postcode SA7 and got the same price. You do have to order a minimum of 500 litres so not sure if this helps.

As per other messages, you could consider going on a DD and paying monthly, just ensure when ever you get a top up you negotiate a price before accepting a delivery.

Other options you could consider is insulating your house, there are loads of free promotions and Tesco were offering a cash back bonus, just do a quick search on google to see if it is still running.

Just ordered 1000l at 57.85p/ltr from a local supplier. Boiler juice was 59.9p.

The worst price, 62.95p, was from a supplier who offers zero VAT in return for a direct debit arrangement - they've simply added 5% to their prices to cover the "free VAT"!
