  • That's a lovely gesture from DD & DSIL and I would say thank you very much if they can comfortably afford it :) If it's coming up in places it will be a safety risk surely? I often pay to have things like this done in my mums house and don't resent paying it one little bit and I'm sure they feel the same.xx

I would let them pay if they can afford it. It's money well spent after all and it's nice that they want to help. I'm sure there will be times in the future when you'll be in a position to repay the favour.

Thank you for your advice. I really didn't know what to say. DSIL has already rung a person who lays floors and he says he can do it in about six weeks.
plmbl, what a great idea. An early and very much needed Christmas present.I much prefer to receive something that I need not want :)

  • Today DD cleaned the cottage, I made some biscuits, Mr P managed to sort the recycling and were all finished nice and early. Then DD and DS2 put the flooring down as well as they could so that tomorrow when I have my visitors we have a slightly safer flooring for now.

We are having an open house for Green Build Fortnight and have people coming to look at our wood pellet boiler and storage and also the ground Source heat Pump set up in the cottage. If we can help other people make decisions then that is great. DS2 and DSIL are helping and talking to people. Mr P has planned to run away :D He is going to take big dog to DD's.

Later we have DB for his last meal with us as he leaves to go back to Oz. His head is in a much better place now and he wants to see his girls. We have invited some of DB's friends too.

  • Not much to report except that I sold a pair of shoes on ebay yesterday. Today I am going to list a lot more and see if I can up our income a bit. Also I have the job of reconciling our bank account with YNAB as I have been a bit lax about updating it recently.

When I have an idea of how much we have to live on this month I will list it on here.

I had a lovely day out at a support group on Thursday which helped me a lot. Mr P drove me and three other women to the group 20 miles away. Not sure what he made of us all but we all laughed all the way there and back and the ladies said they were being restrained because Mr P was there.

I had a bit of a meltdown on Wednesday after both DS2 and Mr P were very down. DS2 was very worrying in deed.

Not sure why I had to join in but I just had a very long cry. Mr P wasn't very sympathetic which didn't help. I was blaming myself for them both being depressed which I do know isn't true but sometimes it feels like it.

Money wise Mr P took cash out for spends without checking with me again and I was worried we wouldn't have enough for bills but DS2 has given us something towards his keep. It must make him feel a bit more worthwhile. I also found I had been paid interest which I had missed. It is from the money we had from my dad so he is still helping us.

I have done a menu plan and inventory and have enough food to keep us going for a while. I just seem to run out of fresh stuff and tinned tomatoes and baked beans. I might have another go at making my own baked beans.

Tomorrow we have cottage changeover and then a Christening. Wondering what I can make for the baby.......

  • Hugs for your meltdown Pooh. It's hard being the one who supports everyone else all the time, and especially when the support isn't reciprocated when it's needed Xx

To make life bearable we need to spend even though we are trying to cut back even further.

    We need:
2 exterior doors as the front and back porch door were badly damaged in the recent storms.
Insulation for hall roof and exterior walls

    We would like:
To complete double glazing the back of the house.
    A new central heating boiler.
A more up to date 4x4 to get out in the Winter

Tomorrow's job is to price up insulation for the hall and to find the cheapest exterior doors I can. I need part glazed, a half glazed back door will do.

We have come a long way since Jan 12. All the things I was aiming to do I have achieved.

Next plan is to find a way to replace the front and back porches. They are a great protection from the elements but are falling apart. Now we have a warm house with hot running water it is time to find ways to reduce our bills too.

I have been turning lights off for years. I am going to look at LED for the most used lights.

It feels good to have another challenge.

Mr P hugged me when he found me upset last night. DD reckons it is the first time in 30 years but it isn't so long. He tends to hunker down and hide away when I am upset.

I emailed local carers group to see if I can get some support. You gave me the idea :)
