Coincidentally, myself and the missus are off to NY from 26th to 31st too! We tried posting on Craigslist under the sublet wanted section returned a few offers, however they were mostly unsuitable for us and we ended up booking a cheapo hotel. Let us know how you get on though :)
  • This is funny i'm off to New york on thise dates also! I have just won a hotel via priceline. It was a little more than i wanted to pay but it was the thursday night that was causing me the trouble.

I hot the Grand Hyatt, its right on top of Grand central station. I won it for $290 a night.

  • Biddingfortravel.com is an excellent site for help with booking hotels via Priceline.com 'name your own price' . You get around the fact that they want a US zip code in the credit card details by just inputting any old Zip code - eg from a hotel website or whatever. I only have a UK credit card but having done this, I book on Priceline all the time.

This page: http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelineandexpediabiddingfrm266 takes you to the New York airports section which includes Jersey City. Hotels in Jersey city are much cheaper than New York city iteself and the PATH train will get you into the centre of New York in about 10 minutes for $1.50. Another bonus is that you may get a view over the Hudson river towards the lights of New York which is magical.

There is also a section for bidding on New York City hotels but I noticed that they are very expensive at the time you want to go due to high occupancy rates. You may need to book a different hotel for Thursday night than the weekend

Good luck and have a great trip. There are some great lunchtime eating deals at some of the top restaurants. For example the Gotham Bar & Grill does a $25 3 course lunch which usually includes their to die for chocolate sponge pudding. Jean Jacques also does a similar cheap deal in its canteen section.
