Everything looks good LMT, the only thing that stands out is I'd say you're paying too much for telephony, 100 per month for a landline and mobile is too much.

I know, but that is reduced massively, I was paying about £200 for both per month.. There just doesn't seem to be a cheap way to call/text Australia..

If you really have £269 left over at the end of each month perhaps you could try some sneaky F&F offers to pay off some of the debts for lower amounts. Either that or just throw it at the smaller debts to clear some off (will make you feel better to owe fewer creditors) - you can just about pay off the top 4 debts in 2 months if you can scrimp an extra £32 from somewhere....

I think I could manage £32.. Maybe from shopping or something. EDF offered 25% reduction for F&F and I know some of the others that I have had a while have offered reductions, I have just never been in a position to settle, or have been and preferred to buy shoes with the money.. Now I have a "real reason" to do it, I am determined.

For calls use skype, for texts use email instead. I haven't spent a cent calling home since I got here! :money:

A good website for general information on moving to Australia is PomsInOz. Lots of good advice from people who have been there done that, and I even met a few people through it who were moving out at the same time.
  • It's things like when I'm at work we call eachother and we wake each other up on a morning etc.. During the day when I'm off we use skype etc
  • As a two year veteran of a similar situation(only I am alot older and had been married 25years). You are doing well.
You are on a roller coaster of a ride and sort as much as you can with the energy you have going through your body atm.
You may qualify for benefits such as housing and council tax, also possibly tax credits. You can download some of these forms and fill them in over the weekend. Try doing them as soon as you can. The citizens advice bureau are brilliant at helping with these and with all advice. You may need an appointment with them as they are now very stretched, but will give you the time and expertise that you need. Again contact them asap.

You will survive. You will have times when you think you may not. But you will be stronger, and you will be happy again and smile at the world. There is light at the end of this murky and painful tunnel you just have to keep moving along it, even if you have a scream along the way.
You will be grieving for a life you thought you were going to have, so be very gentle on yourself and find people who love you along the way.

My heart goes out to you, and if I could give you an e hug I would. (((((hug)))))

Cute ;) But yeh no real way to do that for free. They do have alarm clocks in Australia you know ;)

Hope you enjoy your trip. It's just starting to warm up here as well, good time for a visit.

You can get skype on smartphones, and there are some messaging services that allow you do text abroad for free (they work like BlackBerry Messenger). My flatmate is from South Africa and she uses one to text her brother ALL the time. I will find out what it is called and get back to you.

I'm from NZ, living in the UK and call NZ & Oz a lot! There are very cheap ways to do it, so you can definitely bring that £100 down. Check Martin's telephone page for cheap international numbers - I use a number that charges half a penny per minute from landlines, just adds the amount to your bill. There are some numbers now that work for mobiles as well as landlines, so check those out. They're just a few pence a minute, a LOT cheaper than using your phone provider.

Use Skype as much as possible and internet messaging / email. You can use skype on most smart phones but be careful as not all packages let you include it on your data bundle (I saw an ad for T Mobile the other day that said internet phone calls were not included in the data package).

I call home a lot, probably at least every second day and my phone bills are never more than £5-10 a month.

You can bring this under control if you try! I know it's hard in the flush of a new relationship, you want to speak all the time. But if you make yourselves a bit disciplined about it and set "skype date" times, you'll free up a lot more cash each month.

    2012 to pay off CC
After snowballing should be debt free by Mar 2016
2011 Target to be overdraft free this year and get debt down!
  • if i rented a room the money would go to my mam, however, it would mean that i would get extra help towards the bills.. i will talk to mam about it.

£80 per month, thats the most i would ever spend, i only spent 40 for the whole month this month..

wotk hours etc make it difficult for me to go out much, on nights and things.. if i go out with mam and dad they usually pay anyway.. i have chosen not to drink because me an alcohol are dangerous together..

and, no, i havent quit smoking.. although i wish i could
