Have a look at this http://www.lebara-mobile.co.uk/prepay/rates
My MIL has one to call her friend abroad, and he has one as well - top up £10 and you get 250 mins of free calls to a Lebara mobile. Calls to Australia landline 1p/min, Australia mobile 16p/min, SMS 10p each.
If you both get a Lebara sim (they're free!) and just use it for calling each other then it should work out fairly cheap xTrying to jump back onto the moneysaving wagon .... :cool:0 -
is there anything for texts? xx0

I think my MIL and her friend each top up £10 per month - so that gets them 250 free minutes and 250 free texts each, then £10 of credit to use at 10p/min as well.
This is from their website:

How does it work?
Every time you top-up your Lebara SIM, we’ll give you FREE minutes and SMS to use when you call another UK Lebara phone number.
The minimum top-up required is £5. The larger the value you top-up the more minutes and SMS we’ll give you. The table below shows you how many you’re entitled to.
Each bundle lasts for 30-days from the day it is applied.
You can check the balance of your FREE minutes and SMS by dialling *#1345# from your Lebara mobile, the balance will appear on your screen.
Reward Rules- Only the first two top-ups in a calendar month will qualify for the Rewards.
- Your FREE call minutes and SMS will last for 30 days.
- Once your free minutes and SMS have been used or have expired, or if you have made a top-up but the free minutes and SMS have not yet been applied, you will be charged Lebara’s standard rates for UK calls and texts.
- The Rewards may be withdrawn at any time in full or in part at the absolute discretion of Lebara Mobile and/or Lebara Ltd. Any withdrawal will be notified at www.lebara-mobile.co.uk.
- The Rewards is subject to the following terms and conditions.

so even though this is a lebara sim card being used in oz, it will still class as a uk sim and the call rewards will still be the same is that right? xx0

Yep I think so, it seems to work for my MIL! At the end of the day the SIM is free, you could try £5 credit and see if it works xxTrying to jump back onto the moneysaving wagon .... :cool:0

Hi,
Depending on your mobile, take a look at: www fishtext com, replacing the spaces with .
It will let you send text messages via the internet ona payg basis and costs pennies per text, alternatively, if you both have internet access and a recent mobile, take a look at Whatsapp, its like text messaging but uses your internet usage instead and will be foc. :-)0 -
Thanks for your advice.. He said that he will pay for both top ups anyway so it's worth a try xx0

FishText is great. My 14 year old son hasa girlfriend who moved to Switzerland, and he was desperate to keep in touch, but 20p a text message was killing me. Using FishText, its now 2p per text. Son is happy and so am I. Highly recommended.0
