Research shows that 3d scans may cause the baby pain . Most Mw would not recommend them but its personal choice. I have to have growth scans at 28 , 32 and 36 so I will see my baby further down the line.

Im worried about my baby as it is and wouldnt want to put it at risk . I will be putting 100 into a bank account for her . But again just my opinion.

there is a big check list and if they can't mark everything on there they will ask you to come back - but will try for ages with you in different position. With me this time it was the face as the baby kept turning away into my pelvis, but after me moving and having a drink and going on my side they saw the lips so didn't have to go back

I wouldnt want one , can think of better things than to line the pockets of private companies.

I suspect it's the kind of thing you pay for with your first child but not subsequent ones. We had it and the detail is amazing, but I noticed for a moment when the screen was black and white, and realised they add that yellowy tinge to be more flesh like. It is kind of exploitative, but then the same is true of so much pregnancy and children's stuff. You don't have to have the most expensive of everything, and baby will still turn up and be beautiful a few weeks later if you don't bother with a 4D scan.

Personally I think 3D scans will become the next 'must have'.......

TBH a lot of the 'must haves' which are on the list for your first child become a 'what was I thinking? I didn't use it' for the second or third

Just been to see my daughter after the scan today and the scan pictures are much more detailed than the 12 week scan pictures.

But baby was lying flat on it's back, and no amount of poking, prodding and changing position would make it turn over so the sonographer could check it's spine properly, so my daughter has to wait for another appointment for another scan to make sure the spine is ok.

Everything else was fine, thank God, but obviously the spine has to be checked. Baby was moving and playing with it's toes but I'm just a bit worried...is it routine to need another scan if the spine can't be clearly seen?

    Hi Zaksmum,

the sonographer couldn't get 3 angles of our beans spine at my 20 week scan either, and it wouldn't stretch out it's legs, so we are going back this week for another one at 24 weeks.

We had to have 2 with my first as well because he kept putting his hand across his chest so they couldn't get a clear view of the heart but he's fine.

It's worrying with your first, but it is pretty normal. I'm not worried this time as they could see the spine (just not from the checklist 3 angles) and it certainly has been practicing stretching it's legs for the last few weeks...mostly in the direction of my bladder!

plus i just think of it as a good thing that we get to see it again (and get some more pics).

The 3d scans i've seen look really good - and it's a lovely gift for your daughter. We are just not bothered, but if we were we would find the money from somewhere for one!
