Definately get one!
We were in 2 minds, but the second the scanner touched the bump the image on the screen was a crystal clear picture of a smiling face! We then had eye rubbing, tongue poking, yawning etc... Absolutely amazing! Happy to send over a picture, just pm me your email.:T If you don't have anything sensible to say, don't say it! :T0 -
I think the money that it costs is better spent on other things and the pictures are scary looking.
They have a place in caring for the mother and baby when things might need investigating further....but to have one just for the pictures seems a waste of money to me.
Everyone is different though.0 -
We had a scan done when i was 28+1.
She was a little cramped in there and was up against the placenta. We did get a few really good pictures of her, one where she is giving a hi 5, yawning and one when she looks like she is picking her nose. That one i will keep and treasure, to show her boyfriend when she is older!!!!
It was my mum who insisted that i went for one as she wanted a fancy scan picture of her first grandchild. I am very glad we went and got it done.:j:j Mummy to little Poppy June :j0 -
Personally I don't like them, find them creepy so find out if your daughter would like one before booking it. (I know I'm on the odd side but I don't like the idea of unecessary scans just for the sake of pictures, while there isn't any evidence they aren't unsafe (I think the worst that has come up is there is an increase in left handedness) there isn't any definative yes they are safe and in the past it's only been when those who were in utero tried to become parents that things because apparent - thinking DES during the 70s rather than scans/xrays. The likelihood is they are safe but personally I would only do it if the benefits outweigh the potential risk, and (probably a lot to do with the fact they freak me out) I don't see the 3/4D photo as a huge benefit - others however do. But then I also turned down a scan for 2 weeks time when I'll be 37 weeks because I don't feel a need for it which a lot of people don't get either, so I fully accept I'm odd that way.
Also I think if you do it for one child you'll have to do so for all of any future grandchildren (I know that's put a friend off getting it done because she's expecting her first and says she intends on a few more and would feel guilty if she didn't have the same for all of them)0 -
Personally I dont' like them as I'm also in the 'I think they look creepy look' camp.
Might be me but I can't understand also this fascination with people wanting to know the sex either - for me it was good enough just to know that Junior was OK.2014 Target;

Just been to see my daughter after the scan today and the scan pictures are much more detailed than the 12 week scan pictures.
But baby was lying flat on it's back, and no amount of poking, prodding and changing position would make it turn over so the sonographer could check it's spine properly, so my daughter has to wait for another appointment for another scan to make sure the spine is ok.
Everything else was fine, thank God, but obviously the spine has to be checked. Baby was moving and playing with it's toes but I'm just a bit worried...is it routine to need another scan if the spine can't be clearly seen?0 -
I think so as they have to say they have checked it all. With Lily they couldn't see all 4 chambers of her heart so i had to go for a walk and then be re scanned. Luckily they found it and it was fine, so they checked it off on the list

Thanks evensangel. I'm surprised how clear this scan was. Just hope all's well with the next one now.
I suppose it's good that my daughter gets to have another scan anyway.0
