worth getting 3D baby scan?

My daughter is having her 21 week scan tomorrow - it's her first baby and I can't wait to see the scan picture.
I've seen ads for 3D scans online and they look amazing compared to the standard pictures you get at the hospital...my daughter got one at her 12 week scan and you can't really see much.
She says the 3D ones are quite expensive, around £100, but I'd be happy to pay for her to have one if I thought the picture would be so much clearer.
Has anyone had a 3D scan and are they worth paying for?

I'll add my comment before the pregancy police come on.
We had one and it was great, although we didn't see much as she hid in the placenta it was amazing. We saw her face a few times and see her yawn.
I say its worth it
Also, ignore anyone that says the scans are dangerous, Lily was born and doesn't have extra arms or legs or anything muntant like :rotfl:0 -

The pregnancy police? Oh dear they sound scary:)!!
I haven't posted on this section before so hope I'm not going to get slagged off for God knows what...!!
It sounds like it's well worth getting (though I haven't heard of any risks...) and I'm sure your Lily is gorgeous - and what a lovely name she has, too.0 -

Ah someone posted before about having a 4d scan done and some people came on and basically told her she was damaging her baby by exposing it to unnecessary scans
Thanks, she is beautiful, but im biased
If you want to take a look here is my 4d scan pics LINK
Mine aren't great though, im sure your daughters will be much better
Also, i hear people say babybond are a good comany, we dont have one in Portsmouth though.0 -
hi , just like to comment here , ormond street hospital do them for nothing , you just have to have something wrong with the baby , we had a 3 d scan of our kid done there before he was born , why not just wait till hes out , the scan was slightly interesting i suppose but you'd be better off putting the £100 in his piggy bank i would say , by the way our boy was delivered successfully and had a kidney out at 9 months in ormond street ,he's now 4 , fantastic place maybe give them the £100my favourite food is spare ribs0

A little bit harsh maybe.
My Daughter is now 28 she had Kidney removal at 13 weeks, and another 20odd ops as well. Never thought We would ever be Grandparants (only Daughter)
Anyway she is 15 weeks, and we have told her if she wants a 4D scan then she will have one. In fact she can have whatever she wants.
You are lucky, seems you found out whilst having a scan that your poor wee baby had problems. Thank the lord that these things are here and help thousands of parents.
I really hope your wee baby is ok now, there is nothing worse than the pain of having an ill child, its the worse thing a parent can go though.
They wernt around when I was expecting. It would have saved a of time and pain for my baby.
The thing is people who pay for these things are in a way helping to fund all this new technology.
Of course I give to our own Childrens hospital as well, but please dont spoil something beautful for anyone that wants to use this service.

I didn't get one as money was too tight at the time a good friend did and I was quite jeleous, but 3 years after the birth and she hasn't looked at them since, so I'd say fantastic at the time but after you have the real thing you won't bother with them any more.AKA: PC

I had a 4D scan when I was pregnant with my first. It cost me £150 and to be completely honest I would spend it again!!! It's sooo worth it. The only thing I will say though is if you do go for it try and have it 27weeks plus as the baby will be chubbier so you'll see alot more!!!0

See moo thats the thing everyone has their own ideas, and who are we to say whats right or wrong. Can I ask when you are due?
Us grand parents didnt have the choices there is today, so I think thats why we make the offer to pay for them.
I dont know if my Daughter wants to have one yet, but I will respect her wishes of course I will.
