Is your heating ON or OFF?

Ours is £75 dual for a family of 4 but I was paying £145 dual to heat and electric the old house... and still wracking up debt in the colder months.
You can't judge a person or their usage by the figures. i certainly haven't changed my frugal habits living in this house, I just have a very efficient boiler with room thermostat, heavily insulated to 2012 standards, good double glazing windows and upto date plumbing as opposed to radiator therms (which kick s the boiler to come on when ever each room falls below the temp) old fashioned/poorly installed plumbing that made the water needed to run 5 minutes before hot water got upstairs, a trickle of water coming through the taps meaning the hot water has to run longer in order to get a decent amount of water - children had to wash in cold water on a morning, inefficient insulation, if any, poorly fitted windows and a very inefficient old boiler. And a damp issue.
Never judge a person and their usage/frugality by their direct debit amount. Some of us have to rent right hovels and make do.0 -
I have dug out all the blankets this weekend, washed the bedding upstairs and brought all the rest down into the living room for under sofa storage.
I even asked my mum if she needed any, I don't want the heating on yet.Wishing you all good luck!

19 degrees in our house so no sign of heating. How low do you allow your thermostat to get before you all consider pressing the button?
We haven't got a thermostat in this flat so have to go by whether or not I can see my own breath. In the old house I think it was set for the heating to come on if it went below 18 degrees during the day but it still always felt cold because it was damp and draughty. Some mornings we'd wake up freezing to find the thermostat reading 10 degrees.0 -
I put mine on for an hour yesterday evening to check that it was working ok. It is a bit chilly here but have got fleece throws on all the sofas and chairs and told son and daughter to put jumpers and slippers on . I to have pre payement metres but have been putting £15 a week in each throughout the year, so have a nice credit on both gas and electric so hoping that I will only have to continue putting the same in each week when the heating eventually starts going on.0

I dont have a thermostat either, so I brought a digital thermometer to leave in the living room. Definetly worth getting one as sometimes I feel cold but will look at it and it tells me its not that cold! There would have been lots of times last year I would have put the heating on because it felt alot colder than it actually was.0 -
Our DD for duel fuel is £36 pm, ( 3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 teens) but we have solar panels which are just amazing.
No heating here, still barefoot and bare armed, do need a blanket in the evenings but that's fine. Cats are feeling it though and we have one or five creeping on the bed during the night."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
