The house is at 17 at the moment without heating and is more than comfortable for s, but we are all able to remain active/add extra layers so it won't be the same for everyone, and I'm trying to re-acclimatise my body to colder temps after the summer.

I tend to put it on when it gets colder primarily in the mornings rather than evenings, otherwise we'd not get out of bed! Obviously if someone is ill it goes on, and when my parents visit. They feel the cold alot and have various conditions that seize up if the temp is too low - I have to say though I find going to their houses to be uncomfortably warm, stuffy and sleep inducing, so I don't warm the house up to 21, I find over 20 very uncomfortable.

but it's not a competition! warmth is a necessity of life.

19 degrees in our house so no sign of heating. How low do you allow your thermostat to get before you all consider pressing the button?

Both of us have some health issues so I can't afford to get to cold ...your mileage may differ, but I find about 19 in the living room is Ok any lower and I reach for the button.

Well said for all those reading this that need heat for health issues/ age etc please turn it on. I am only keeping mine off as I am fit and able to keep moving so I don't notice the cold so much.

My heating has been off since April. Im at £45 a month for gas and electricity, was £58 and took a lot of negotiating with npower to get them to drop it to £45 but I wasnt burning £58 a month. I do like to be warm and in times gone by when I had more disposable income the heating would be on a lot more, but its been not a bad summer even in Scotland, today is the first day in a few months that its been pretty baltic.

Its still very warm here at 17 degrees outside, and 19 degrees inside, we havent had any cold weather yet below those temps, so no heating..........But I wont hesitate to turn it on if it goes under 18 degrees, got a very sick disabled husband that cant move so he feels the cold terribly........Health is so much more important than money , and I dont care what I go without , but heating is not one of them.......................

Ive filled the coal shed up through out the summer , and got 2 trailer loads of seasoned logs, DDs well in credit , so GCH can go on whenever we want it to..............

I'm expecting/hoping this year's gas usage will be less than last year's, thanks to the 12" of loft insulation that has recently been fitted.

That said, with the rising cost of gas, I'm doubtful the actual bills will be any cheaper.

EDIT: I've just had a look at my last bill, and it says the average use over the period was 5.97KWh per day, while the average over the same period, last year, was 18.48KWh per day.

That's quite a reduction, although how much is down to the extra insulation, and how much is down to the weather, I don't know.
  • I found mine at a car boot sale :D I have seen them for a couple of quid on ebay but can't say if they are any good or not (sorry)

Ahh ok, thanks anyway! I'll have to have a nosey online then.
  • I've just clicked mine on - it came on at 18` I didn't put it on till DH and I were wearing jumpers etc but its got windy, it will only stay on for an hour cos I'll be doing tea then and that always warms the house up :]
