We have had had a high bill too, £704 :eek: that's gas and electric quarterly bill , so I'm sat now and darn't put the heating on .

It's £250 up on this time last year , we haven't changed anything that we know of, we have the thermostat set at 18c during the day only and it's off at night. DH is retired so in the house all Day We have double glazing, cavity insulation , loft insulation , switch appliances off , everything I can think of to save.

    It's ridiculous

We're in a similar situation with oil....we will have had an extra fill by the end of this year...about £500 more than last year.

Our heating has been on virtually everyday since about October last year until a couple of days ago, and we're in the last week of April. We're in all day too, so it's been from 7am to 11pm plus a fire in the living room in the evening.

The winter has been really cold and long here.....

The good news is that we got money back from the electricity company...almost £200...that was a bonus. Especially as we had put no washing outside at all during the winter...we've just taken the cover off the whirly.

I've turned the thermostat down to 15 and I'm hoping my housemates won't notice!

1st May I'll switch it off altogether. My SIL swears by turning on/off heating when the clocks change. I'm not brave enough for that (and I do feel a bit sorry for my brother!).

Off and has been off for about 6 weeks now, apart from the odd half hour here and there. Cant afford to put it on.

Mine is now off - I've only had it on in the bedroom for 45 mins morning and evening. The lounge is pretty warm without the heating on so I've not worried about that so much. Bought thermal liners for curtains which has also helped.

Our CH has been off for the last 8 days and hopefully will stay off long into the autumn.
Today, I have been sat out in my garden and heard the neighbours in theirs. It was so warm :) I think my tan has started. Def. got some colour.

On! It's gone cold again in the evenings and nights, not had it on for about 3 weeks now but there's a chill in the air tonight and I fancy a warm toasty night in with a film and my blanket
This is WAY more fun than monopoly.
  • Haven't had the heating on for about 3 weeks, temp doesn't normally go below 17c so all is good! and we need to save the money!

We've had our combi boiler fixed at last so we don't need the heating on to heat the water (cost us a bomb last year). Had the heating on for a short while this morning and about an hour this evening. Place is nice and warm now so it's off.

Hoping to keep the bills down this year.
