does your double glazing have vents at the top, if so are they all closed over?Yesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, And Today is a Gift, That's Why it's Called The Present

This house was warmer witout the double glazing that was put in by the council(but now under Housing Association)I use the gas CH sparingly but still would cost too much if used as I'd like to. Its off more than it is on.
But with standing charges they'll always get some money out of me.
If I put the heating on like we used to the money would be diverted from essentials that are hitting many of us like increases in water rates, council tax, the dreaded bedroom tax and food. Oh and I would never have a treat to look forward to.
I dread what the future holds for many of us(I don't mind admitting that I am on a mild antidepressent)temporary I am sure.
Yes, like many here it is thermals and layered clothing, fleece throws, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, lots of warm drinks, hot water bottles.
They keep telling me I'll save in the Summer(if we have one)but if I already use it as little as possible during winter and do the same during summer, how is it going to be cheaper? Unless the energy company has a different price per unit at different times of the year...
I think mine is cheaper in the summer but I want the prices to be cheaper when we use it more in the colder months.

A little higher than us Tink, we have a prepayment meter and since Dec we've been putting £90 per month in the gas, and £50 a month in the electric. That's for a small 3 bed mid terrace with combi boiler, but we're down south from you, so we've not had so much snow.0

Hi so far since 2nd april ive braved having the heating off. Theres only me and im at work 5days a week. I was cold this morning, but im now getting used to waiting for the kettle to slightly cool and make a hot water bottle when im having a cuppa. My bill so far since 24/09/2012 to 1/04/2013 is £407.01. Its higher than last year hence ive turned my storage heater off now. Ive got an electric blanket for the bed anyway and a hot water bottle in the lounge with my throw. The only problem will be drying washing, ive got a tumble drier, but i wont use it. so im going to plan my washing days around the warmer days (as long as it doesnt rain). Its easier for me i know as i dont have anyone else here. But that means the bills are all mine to pay0

i live in a converted basement which is sheltered from the elements the ceiling has been lowered and the floors are raised in the bedrooms, when i lived in an end terraced modern new build it was so cold and north facing didn't help much with lack of sun, now that im east facing the sun comes thru in the morning, its an open plan living room/ kitchen not too big so i guess cooking helps with the heat, then 2 steps up to the hall to the bedrooms...the hall has a small radiator which is never on and neither are the bedrooms, if the bedroom is cold then its hot water bottles and if its chilly in the evenings then its a snuggie and a water bottle and pj's with bed sox and slippers, i live alone so dressing down isn't a prob for me, when i was growing up the fire was put on in the morning and again to get dressed again at night after bath-time (shared bath with sisters when young then shared bathwater when older) and we spent the rest of the day sitting at the kitchen table, even visitors sat in the kitchen, living rooms were hardly used:DYesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, And Today is a Gift, That's Why it's Called The Present

Another thing , i do batch cooking on a Sunday and freeze it, then its a case of defrost and microwave, keeps costs down too, i know alot of ppl don't like prepayment meters but if i didn't have one i think i'd go wild with the heating, its a real eye opener:TYesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, And Today is a Gift, That's Why it's Called The Present
