Is your heating ON or OFF?

For the first time last night we had the heating on ALL NIGHT...thermostat set to 16. And for the first time in a week, I didn't cough and wheeze all night. I had suspected that my asthma playing up at night for the last week or so was because of the air getting really cold and I think I was right. It was bliss to actually get some sleep!
On a slightly related note, our bedroom is directly over our garage and it is always so cold...even with two radiators both on full. Last night we had three hot water bottles in bed with us even though the heating was on! You can literally feel a drop in temperature when you walk into this room from the rest of the house. Is there anything we can do about this or do we just have to live with it? Stupid place to put a master bedroom...0 -
Extra thick underlay under carpet...or even cheap fleeces under carpet. How about getting cheap carpet and nail it to the ceiling of the garage.GC - Oct £36.17/£31

Yeah I play the "not turning the heating on" challenge too! Hubby came home at 5pm yesterday and just about the first thing I said to him was that we hadnt had the heating on all day! Although to be fair we are using the multi-fuel stove so its not like we dont have any heating at all.
Heating has been on for an hour this morning and its white over with frost so we have got the stove going. I would so love to make the full tank of heating oil last all winter but dont know if thats realistic. I am working from home today so thats when you really feel the cold just sitting at the computer but I have got three jumpers on so we will see how it goes!0 -

It's 7 C (45 F)in my front room and 8 C (46 F) in the bedroom. I am in the comparative warmth of my back room at 9 C(48 F) typing on my laptop. The laptop cooling fan hasn't kicked in at all this week! The CH and gas fires are all off, and the only gas I am using at present is the instant water heater so my consumption is around 1.5 cu metres per week. That works out at about £1.40 per week. The only heat I am getting is the warmth from the electric cooker when I prepare my evening meal! Not grumbling though! I'm wearing two layers plus a scarf, so I'm warm enough. Hot water bottle keeps me cosy in bed.0

Very much on here! These past couple of days have been very chilly!
Have a rule though, that I'm not allowed to turn any heating on until at least midday on really cold days, and 4pm on overcast but warmer days.
The last 2 nights I'm ashamed to say that I've had the electric blanket in my bed on the lowest setting all night! I haven't got a bed time companion to snuggle with, so struggle to get and keep warm without the electric blanket. I already have a 13 tog duvet on there! It may even be 15... can't remember.Because it's fun to have money!

its on but its because I have visitors this afternoon. If I am here on my own which is normal all day, it doesn't be switched on at all. I just love to walk into other peoples homes that are warm and cosy. So when I have callers I have mine all hot and cosy for them. I think its good manners really. What do you think?0

When I am on my own I don't have the heating on unless really cold but as soon as I know visitors are coming heating and gas fire goes on to make it cosy! Wish i had a south facing house like my last one but sometimes they can be so so hot in a heatwave. I like getting the sun though in both the back and front of my house to warm it up.0

Well, I said last year I wasn't going to post again, but.....
For the first time in two years.....my heating is ON.
It's been a massive uphill struggle to get our new heating system in this autumn, and it's been beset by problem after problem. It is on its test run now and they think the house should be 'warm in about two days'.0 -
Matty Im like you I only tend to put the heating on if I have house guests and whilst Im on my own I tend to snuggle under fleeces or put my dressing gown over my clothes. this is from neccesity though not choice as Im on limited income and have to keep a very strict eye on the pennies.
