OFF still, but it looks like we are getting cold weather by Friday, so all bets are off from then on. :D

courtesy of my downstairs neighbour my heating is still off

it's been about 18-21C most days once i get up and the computers are on (they don't half warm up the room!) and this is despite a handful of nights at 0C and plenty of frosts up here.

i now have my lap blanket on, wear my fleece dressing gown over my clothes in the house but i'm not always wearing the slipper boots, in fact i'm so warm now i took them off and may take my dressing gown off... gotta love downstairs neighbours that feel the cold (she's a solicitor i guess she can afford it!)

i may have to turn my heat on tomorrow night (storage heaters) as i'm so backlogged with laundry and it's just not drying well outside right now but it is supposed to be -2C overnight then so perhaps it's not all that bad.

i plan on taking advantage of her heat as long as possible, i generally only put the heating on regularly once the house struggles to reach 18C for a few days. we don't actually like it up at 21C all the time, and especially not in the bedrooms
  • I am restricting our heating to an hour a day. I try and last out as long as possible before using the hour and have managed without it some days this week.

I will also be following my plan to not put the heating on the timer but switch it on and off when I really need it.

I am also encouraging the kids to have baths, as we are heating the water anyway so we might as well use the hot water rather than the electric shower.

Have just bought some coal for the multifuel stove so that will be fired up this weekend if we get the predicted cold snap. And I must get the curtain up at the front door!
  • :j well the heating has been on tonight for 30 mins, why am i so happy... my fantastic boiler repair guy came, fiddled a few knobs and switches and yes we have a fixed boiler.
its been broke for over 2 weeks. so missed it. for a quick blast of heat to take the chill off.. it will be going on timed on the 1st of november... mind lol if we are still living here... still waiting on a compleation date....

  • Mine is now on every morning for an hour before the monsters get out of bed.
For some strange reason i'm not feeling the need in an evening yet (east midlands) It could possibly be due to the fact I had a full new roof put on this year and new loft insulation fitted (the house seems to be holding the heat better)
Anyone on benefits or able to get grants look into the insulation, after 3 cold years and not being able to afford to do it, now it's done...my god can i feel the difference.
I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!

    Good morning :)

Surprisingly, my heating is off this morning. Its not cold at all here, and i was so busy rushing around this morning, trying to get the kids off to school, that none of us actually noticed if it was cold- see, running late has its advantages! ;)

    Have a great day everyone!

Only on in the evening at the moment but not every night. Mostly to help to dry some washing! Think I will have to put it to come on in the morning soon though, going to get cold and frosty at the weekend but this week has been quite mild.

  • Sadly i have had my heating on since the start of october, as I suffer from a syndrome if my blood isnt kept warm, I end up really sick. But it is only on for about 3 hours a day as my husband got me some of those heat packs to keep my skin warm. I feel like moving to Spain sometimes!!!!

  • I haven't even tested my CH yet. It's warm enough for me in my old house at 13 C (55 F). It's cheaper to go out and buy another £3 T-shirt to put on than run the heating for a few days! I'm only wearing two layers at the moment but I'll probably put another layer on when the temperature drops below 11 C.
  • At the moment I'm limiting myself to heating at weekends only, when I'm home for longer stretches of time.
Cold is meant to hit on Saturday, but I'm off to visit my parents for a few days then, so I'll take advantage of their heat for a bit!
