Its pretty cold here this morning and about 15oC indoors but the heating isnt on yet. I am hoping to wait until Thursday just because it costs so much to have it on through the winter! Its not unbearable and so long as you have socks and long sleeves on its fine.

If the weather stays this chilly then I may put the heating on briefly when the kids have a bath but last night it was fine without the heating when they bathed.

Heating is definitely ON! Its very cold here this morning.

I know its stating the obvious, but i really wish it wasnt so cold, i just cant afford to maintain (or increase) the amount of gas usage it will take to keep us warm over a cold winter :(
Of course, i WILL afford it, the money will most likely come out of the grocery budget, or somewhere else.

Sorry, just feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning :(

The snow has laid here, currently 2c outdoors and almost 16c indoors. The heating is most definitely on, but I hope to turn it off once the indoors temperature reaches 19c.

I don't know why but it seems to get warmer here after 3am but as it is dark outside until 8am(ish)and last night we had a dusting of snow which then froze...the temp in the bedroom was around 10c(50c)until the early hours. Is 10c cold? I don't know...

I haven't anything to do, no one to see, all my food and drink in the house and only myself to please so I'm afraid I have gone back to bed...to try and stay warm, doze and listen to the radio.

  • We have JUST put the heating on for the first time this year (since feb anyway)
We always try and wait for the clocks to go back to put it on (weird but it gives us something to aim for) but im working on an assignment for my job today and I have 2 long sleeved tops, a hoodie and a fleece poncho on and 2 hot waterbottles so that i can sit in the bedroom with all my paperwork spread out aroundme! ~ So I need something to stop my hands freezing!!
I have considered gloves and a hat but think OH may think im crazy!
Also we woke up to soaking wet windows with all the condensation and im sick of the bathroom getting mouldy so quickly due to not being able to dry anything out properly..

In short YAY for having the heating on :T (hopefully i will feel it soon :rotfl:)

Also I have a new quote for the fixed to 2015 rate tarrif from EDF which i shall probably be switching to to save from the rises in december!
I hope this is a good idea?? I dont usually mess with switching etc when it comes to energy suppliers but i really couldnt afford much higher rates and the news is scaring me a bit! I have only had a house for 3 years so not sure how high rates can go?

wanting to feel a little sorry for myself

no to heating, i find around 4am the coldest then get too warm afterwards as my blanket is very warm, its outside of the bed that is the problem.

im not really sure how the one heater even works, i thought you would just switch it on. but with a storage heater you have to heat the tank first then switch it on? like an electric shower, you just switch it on, but mine i have to heat the tank. i assume the set up is it uses a huge amount of electricity, does anyone know, not lived anywhere without central heating before. bathroom is freezing when it gets really cold as only the one heater nowhere near the bathroom.

the fuse already cuts out when i put the hot water on for 10 mins its lasting now, only have laptop, router, fridge freezer and the hot water on, nothing else. and that seems to be ok, having the kettle and one hob on for breakfast with the light seemed too much. cannot have washing machine on when hot water is on so it may be the same for heating.

last place i lived you could not have the dishwasher and washing machine on the same time, i was fine without dishwasher but other flatmates used it a lot. plus having a shower (electric shower) if either washing machine or dishwasher were on meant meant you would burn yourself!!! weird stuff, dont understand how the electrics work at all!

I presume prices will keep going up until fracking takes off, or we have more solar energy, where i live we get a huge amount of sunlight, you cant sleep well in summer, now i can :) and solar panels would work really well. i cant imagine the management company ever been keen on the idea.

insulation must be the way forward. energy efficient appliances, keep your fridge freezer full and defrosted uses less electricity, one pot cooking, if you washing machine has limescale i read here it has to work harder and uses more electricity. All those small things, if everyone used less (next to impossible to implement), prices would come down.

Businesses with a huge amount of office space leaving their lights on 24 / 7.

I know how you feel ,I really wish winter would go away .My heating is off not through choice, after being made redundant we just can't find any more money for a increase in DD.

We are lucky and have a well insulated house so at the moment plenty of layers is keeping us warm .When the real cold weather hits it will go on to take the chill off, the more care full we are now the more we will be in credit to use in the Jan Feb weather, well that's the plan away.
