Just put the CH on, the house feels cold and I have washing that didn't quite dry outdoors today and can't be put in the TD. DH will be home from work soon so will light the candles to make it warm and cosy.

Lit my open fire couple hours ago, its crackling away nicely now, just watching the dancing flames is so relaxing, no need to put the GCH on when only one room is being used at night........2 large lumps of coal and couple logs last 3 hours, probaly works out a bit cheaper than having the CH on, its better to look at..!!

No heat on here in Wiltshire, the LR is 19c which isn't to bad.We will have to keep it off for as long as possible, last years usage was low but it's going to have to be even lower this winter, thankfully the house is well insulated which makes it easier to keep warm with layers of clothes HWB, loads of tea lights burning and three dogs to cuddle up to.

Well, ours definitely came on this morning! My car is all iced up, and the baby monitor was flashing as the nursery had dropped to 15deg! DD was in with me so was toasty warm...
Also been out in conservatory to grab a toy and brrrr it is chilly this morning!
The timer is only for 30min on a morning, but I may flick it back on if it doesn't warm up soon...

Woke up to a slight frost but still keeping heating off. The gas bill came yesterday and was £90 for the last quarter so I was dead chuffed.
Kids have been moaning (even DD who was only wearing a t-shirt!) and DS2 brought down his duvet yesterday to watch tv, but I did stick the radiators on for a couple of hours before bed to warm their rooms up. I'm at home most of the day and I have got used to having the rooms cold - I just pop on my dressing gown. If it gets much colder though I will start turning it on again!

When i put £30 on the gas meter on Friday, i still had £9 left on there from the previous month, so am definitely improving, as i would normally be using £30 every 3 weeks!

Put the heating on for 30mins this morning, then that should be it. I may put it on for 30mins this evening, but depends on how cold/warm it is.

Its a lovely sunny but windy day, got all washing line dried this morning, will light the fire when sun goes down, as we have large windows and mostly south facing the bungalow heats up lovely when the sun shine..............:D
  • I'm almost out of oil, still using the oil boiler for half an hour each morning for hot water but I won't be able to order oil until the end of the month. The open fire has been lit the last four evenings though. The stairs go up from the sitting room, DD's bedroom is at the top of the staircase and above the sitting room so it's the warmest room upstairs, but she is moaning constantly about being cold. She and her BF live here whilst saving to buy their own house, and they will be in for a shock when they're paying to keep their place at the 21C that she finds comfortable. Note that they were asleep this afternoon, fully clothed, under duvet, fleeces and assorted snuggly cats, when I was in the barn sawing up branches, and not cold at all.

I do have a couple of electric radiators, a narrow one with fins, 1500W and a panel one, 450W, which is better really as only the front heats up, also a couple of 2000W convectors, but I can't rely on DD to use them only during cheap rate electricity. She has an electric blanket for bedtime (I prefer hot water bottles - and cats - to keep me warm), but she does get up at 06.15, half an hour before me, so perhaps she can have a radiator on a timer just until she's dressed in the morning.

On the radio they have said even if the buying of wholesale gas does not increase next winter expect many bills to still be around the £2,000 annually. Yeah right, the bill be that if people can afford to have it on in the first place. Why the increase...improving the system that delivers it and the green policy of the government:mad:
