Still not turned 'the b***ard*' on yet. I'm sitting here with a woolly hat and scarf on which admittedly is a tad dramatic as my OH is sitting beside me in jeans and a fleece and isn't feeling particularly cold. What can I say, I like to get into the spirit of things.

I don't put my heating on anymore haven't for years it's a warm air unit and it eats gas.

I have one calor gas fire in the front room one bottle costs me about £36 and that lasts me about a month. In the cupboard I keep a duvet for when I'm on the sofa.

I have a hot water bottle in the bed and 2 duvets.

mine's on for an hour in the morning otherwise I would not be able to prize the littlies out of their cozy beds.

Heating is gas - and my gas consumption is pretty low (which is good because it's really expensive) my electric usage has shot up in comparison to last year though. Need to audit what's going on - suspect the kids are leaving things running in their rooms during the day.

Boiler doesn't have an external thermostat fitted though which is such a pain - just heats the water to a specific temperature and pumps it round the radiators.

Got the halogen heater down from the loft the other day.

Just switched it on to the lowest level of 400W which shows to be using about 2p per hour if that on the smart meter.

To those who have electric usage readers ie the little things that show you how much and the cost per hour of electric/gas you are using.

What is the minimum price per hour you are using for electricity?

I have things that you can't switch off, fridge, small chest freezer and a small upright freezer.

Things in standby mode that my husband won't switch off  sky plus box, dvd recorder and sky router.

Ours was showing as 5.27pence per hour, when I put the halogen heater on (sitting in front of it with feet up now, lovely and cosey) .

Ours is off here still (and only another 2 weeks until the day we have decided it should go on (31 October).

Like someone else said my gas usage isnt really that much but the electricity is maybe twice the amount of the gas. I only cook with gas and heat and hot water is gas. I guess the washing machine, fish tank, sky, fridge freezer and occasional use of the tumble dryer is what makes the electricity so high.

It's felt quite mild here in Birmingham, so mine is still off at the moment.

I was quite warm last night, so I had the window open while I was asleep. I often do, even in mid-winter, because I love the fresh air and hate feeling stuffy. But I did regret it this morning - I was lovely and warm under the duvet, but my fleecy dressing gown was a long way away in the bathroom. Those few steps were blinking chilly!
  • I have to have it on as I have a medical condtion. I will be glad when I go into hospital to have my blood warmed!!! Then DH wont be shouting at me.

Through watching very little TV and no longer using a VCR most things are off. I have one energy light bulb on at night for safety/comfort, the fridge/freezer, DAB radio and that's it! A PC and router for the internet but once I have done what has to be the PC is turned off. The router has to stay on to avoid problems setting it up again.

Electric is said to be more expensive than gas and I certainly use more.
