We're paying just short of £3,500 a year for our oil and electricity. There are no other suppliers for us, so it's put up and shut up.
I have nothing but sympathy for you, that's an awful lot of money for heat. Take a look at the preparing for winter thread if you already haven't. There may be some tips to help.
I thought I had it bad! I'll shut up moaning, there is always someone worse off isn't there.0 -

Good lord.. £3.500......My duel fuel actual metre readings works out just over £900 per year, plus I do buy coal for the open fire of a evening and turn the GCH off........ I do keep the temp at 21 degrees all winter because hubby totally disabled.............My electrics about £370 per yr, and about £540 for gas, so I too will shut up.............

It's not easy, but I do a monthly budget so I know exactly where our money is going each month. Whatever is left is ours to spend. Not much of that though unfortunatly as our rent is over £10,000.
Ten grand for rent too!!! I BET you do a monthly budget.
I need a lie down in a dark room with a cold cloth on my head.
We would be eating seaweed and tree bark and walking round dressed in tea towels with that outlay each year.0 -
Ive given in today and put it on, the house feels musty, not cold as such, but we do have issues with mild damp, victorian end of terrace, so far better to keep a low background temperature, staves it off. Also put the dehumidifier to work in the downstairs loo, and lit the multifuel stove in the LR. Have had that lit all day since about 11am with smokeless coal and the heating has hardly kicked in, just about 20 mins every 2 hours, I have it set on 55 degrees so the radiators are just warm, and the boiler is always condensing. I am now of the mind I go to work all week and don't live an extravagant life by any means, but I refuse to be cold at home, and I don't want to have to fork out for damp damage as this is a rented house. Thermostat in the hall set to 18 degrees. My DD is £47 for the gas and £80 for electric, and I can't really afford it to go much higher, but, will just have to make cutbacks elsewhere if it does.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -

We might be paying lower tax over here, but we more than make up for that in outgoings. I'm trying to get our food bill down, but it's about £300 a month, plus a bit for cat food and washing stuff (and we can't not have him - he's an employee for keeping mice awayThat's my excuse anyway
). No Aldi, Lidl, Asda etc to shop around, just Tesco and Shoprite (and the Co-op but they don't count for me as they never have anything in I want, and they're expensive)

i had my heating on here this morning in the bathroom and living room..shower/then dress as quick as poss, recently became unemployed so heating was never an issue b4 as i was out most of the day..i live on the west coast of scotland and its been blue sky and chilly and as i live in a basement flat the light goes pretty early on from the back garden(to which my living room faces)..i don't mind throwing on a snuggie and putting a wooley hat on, though not in front of OH...Hot water in bed and old cardi over pj's..job searches tomoz so out again most of the dayYesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, And Today is a Gift, That's Why it's Called The Present
