Ooo nice, I'm so tempted to get something like that.
I tried a onesie on in New Look though and oh the horror of what I looked like!:o
I was out yesterday afternoon and then we went to my Mum's for dinner last night and she'd put the heating on.
The heating is still off here. We're definitely feeling the benefit of the new windows we had put in earlier this year. Feel very lucky we were able to do that with some of DH's redundancy money. (He got a job straight after being made redundant thank goodness).
The old windows were wooden and really draughty. The wind would blow and the bedroom curtains would blow up! :eek:0 -
Its 4.30.pm and ive just lit my fire , the logs crackling away is sheer bliss, im gonna bring my tea in here and sit aside this beautiful fire and enjoy the evening.........I havnt had the GCH on today , apart from 1 hour at 6.30 am. So a few bits of coal and few logs will do nicely tonight.......:D0

Mine is off and will stay off until at least November. I made it to December last year so hoping I can do that again but if it gets really cold it may go on in November.
I live in a Victorian terrace in London with single glazed windows and an open plan living/dining room so it gets very draughty and cold. However, I once read somewhere that the best temperature to keep your living room at while you're in it is between 17 and 21 degrees. I'm comfortable at 16 degrees so I only turn the heating on below that. I also have it so I have to manually turn it on as I find if it's a sunny day you often think its slightly warmer than it is.
As we're out all day we only turn the heating on when we get in and it goes off before we go to bed. I never sleep with the heating on, I've found a decent goose down duvet is a better investment. I can cope with cold mornings too as I use the minimal time possible between getting out of bed and going to work. The cold speeds that up!
I grew up in the north and my parents never had central heating (and this wasn't that long ago!) so maybe I'm just more tolerant of the cold.0 -
Well, having mentioned British Gas prices rising all day on the news and I think Scottish Power have joined in...now we have NPower and they are charging more than BG:eek::mad::(

I can't remember how long I held out last year but I chose not to this year. If I am chilly, it goes on. Having said that, I only put it on low and we don't ever have the house as warm as most people's homes that we go to.
Also, this house is really well insulated so if I have the heating on for an hour one evening, I usually won't even need it the next night... For the time being anyway. Once it gets colder that will change.
I do have an open fire now and where possible I collect free wood and burn that rather than put the CH on if it is just the living room which is chilly.
Stay warm - it really isn't worth getting poorly for xxxx0 -
Round here we were all forced to have gas CH. Oh how I wish I still had an open fire and could burn wood or coal again...I loved our coke boiler that heated the house. It's not 8pm and I am in bed in my pj's and still my feet are cold...
I happened to be at one of the few treats I have managed yesterday and I am sure will become rare and not possible at all soon, the local theatre where I watched Ken Dodd(the show was great and I was happy forgetting my troubles for 5 hours)and as I said earlier it was so lovely and warm, then you come home and have to struggle to stay warm at all..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. We haven't needed our heating on yet, maybe its because we live in a mid terrace but our house has really kept warm. Must say though I have followed a lot of the tips on here regarding getting house ready for winter and seems to have helped a lot without spending much money its amazing what you can get of freecycle etc and make for very little expense that makes the house really cosy.0

Oh us too. What a difference! We replaced our very badly fitting back door earlier in the year and then borrowed some money to replace half of our windows with UPVC. I didnt really want to get into debt to do this but two downstairs window frames were literally rotting away and the draughts were terrible. We will pay off the money we borrowed then do the rest. So glad we did it now!
We are burning some wood left over from last winter on the woodburner and I am trying to make it last. We are really going to have to watch how much heating oil we go through this year.0 -
