Still off here. Really cold earlier, but everyone bar me is out, and I just tried my homemade Werthers Vodka, and am not cold anymore:rotfl:0

Still off here in peak district. It's been nippy but I've just been putting a couple of t shirts on under a jumper so 3 layers, and putting a fleece bobblehat/beanie thing on to insulate my baldish head and it's not long before I'm nice and warm all over inc hands and saved whatever. Never done the head thing before but must have lost a lot of hair in last year. I didnt realise how much heat you must lose through your head. Feel a bit mean doin it and maybe look a bit stupid but hey why waste money?0

Been a bit ill, so had the heating on for an hour yest evening, and the evening before.
Not feeling the cold tonight, so not been on.
Lets hope it lasts0 -
I'm in Kent but I really feel the cold. My husband has our boiler turned right down and all the radiators turned down. Also as the house is constantly being worked on we don't have the full complement of radiators. The heating takes hours to get the house to a pleasant temperature. I keep turning it on and he keeps turning it off. However, the other day he forgot and it was left on all night. I got told off but the bathroom was bliss in the morning. That's what I hate more than anything, having a shower in an icy cold bathroom.
Tonight we both felt cold so we have the gas fire on. We bought it for its heat output and efficiency but only the living room is warm and the rest of the house is cold.
One of the best things though is my gas tumble dryer. They are so cheap to run. Not many people have them because they have to be plumbed in but my husband is a plumber so I am lucky. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Very much on here, it's just too painful for me not to. I am sat here with a t-shirt, fleecy pj's and thick fleecy dressing gown, fluffy bedsocks and furry slippers....and the heating on. Still got joint and back pain and my feet are freezing!
I think if I turned it off I might die.:(0 -
No heating here yet. The 'leccie towel rail is on in the bathroom but beyond that not yet. The ground floor is closed off from the stairs and front door by 2 doors so we can move around the kitchen/diner, sitting room and loo without opening these. It really helps keep the warmth in. I am considering hot water bottles at night, but it's not really cold enough for that yet.
In the past couple of years cavity wall insulation and a conservatory over the frenchdoors (our backdoor) have been added to the double glazing. Made a good difference. Just need to add a new from door and we are all done. Attic may need more insulation, but all the time it is packed to the gunnells with stuff it seems a mute point.
Also in Kent, mid-terrace in town, So pretty sheltered from winds etc.Put the kettle on.0 -

Feet, hands and head...I'm like you regarding losing heat through the head, if I put my hands on my head whilst in bed I can feel a lot of heat. Got thermal bedsocks on tonight but feet are still cold:(Don't know why..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I suffer from cold feet really badly, sometimes I find they warm up better without socks, goodness knows why, defies logic.
Hot water bottle helps too, or wrapping feet in a fleece jumper.
All cheap things to try. I hate cold feet too, really uncomfortable.0 -
Hi Bluebag,
I hope that you are starting to warm up, my feet are a little warmer now. The thermometer in my bedroom seems to change very little but some nights it seems colder...my hands are warmer tonight. Strange...
If a lodger is a goer in the future I will probably need to be able to put the heating on more...then again the extra money may mean that I can..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Is it an option to have a small electric heater installed in the bathroom? We did this last year and it has made a big difference and helped us to cut our bills. It warms the bathroom up in minutes. Last year we hardly ever put the central heating on in the morning because we could still have a warm shower without it. Most days we were able to just put the heating on for a couple of hours in the evening.0
