  • Hi there, I havent had the heating on today, but I have had it on the last two days for about 10 hrs total and it cost me about a unit of gas since Tuesday, when I read the meter, so thats it for a bit, I will have to be cold cold cold before it goes on again - I need as much credit as I can for Xmas when I have the family coming. By the way I live in North Staffs, and its a lot warmer here today. I follow the winter prep thread and its really helped, so the house and me are ready for it!!lol

    our's is off. although i have been closing windows about 5 ish now ( i fling the windows open about 7am as i love fresh air blowing through house). and then shutting blind and pulling curtain's. ( i've got voiles, blind and curtains up at most windows as i love privacy and keeping the cold out).

    and i've got 2 extra blankets on our bed and extra on the kiddies. saying that we had out 10.5 duvet on all summer this year again. i have to snuggle at night.

    but we had our chimney inspection today and it is all systems go for our mulit fuel burner. got alot of work to do first for it so prob won't be in and installed until summer next year as hubby works full time. but will be in for next winter. very excited. so next yr i can see we will find any excuse to light it :rotfl:

    We haven't had ours on since January, hoping I can go round to at least October without it going on... temperature in our flat is supposedly 22.5c yet I'm shivering. Maybe its reading this thread?

  • Put ours on today to check and run it. Son forgot to turn it off when we went out this evening..:-( Other than that it won't be on now until October.

  • Maybe I could start having soup for lunch as well. My mum's given me a butternut squash, so I might try to make one with that. Trouble is they're so difficult to peel and chop!

    )

    Hi Lily, ooh i love using butternut squash in soups. I love pumpkin even more but have to wait until halloween season to get a few of those in. I used to find them really difficult to peel and chop too, but now I pop it in the oven (when I'm already cooking something else usually) for about 20 mins perhaps, then it's extremely easy to just peel it with a potato peeler and nice and soft to chop : ) HTH :j
  • heating's been coming on for an hour most mornings and evenings, I wouldn't have had it on as much but OH is a bit soft ;)

    We have one of those temperature / humidity readers, what temperature do most people think is best to keep the house at? It's usually around 17 if the heating's been on a bit. Also a bit concerned that the humidity level is around 75% ... we've moved to a new bungalow this year and I don't want to have any damp problems, especially as I've got a bit of asthma. Might have to look in to dehumidifiers... I'm surprised at how expensive they are! x

    Thanks for the tip Pixie! :)

    Well I decided to do battle with the thing yesterday, and I must have been lucky as this one wasn't too difficult to peel! Just fiddly really. I made a nice soup, but perhaps should have added more liquid as it was so thick I could (literally!) stand my spoon up in it. :o Nice and filling though! :D

    I'll definitely remember that tip for the tougher ones though, thank you!
  • I am afraid to say that I had to put mine on for a couple of hours today because DD was flapping that her uniform has to be ready for tomorrow and with no tumble dryer that was the only way that I could get her stuff dry in time for her to go back to her BF's :mad: Still it has warmed the house so the insulation should keep it comfortable overnight.

  • I paid my last bill for gas from BG and they charged me £27.40 for approx two months so I now have to see what happens when I pay duel power to NPower. BG only charged up to September 2nd and NPower aren't starting the gas supply until October 1st so I have no idea who is responsible for September and they don't seem to know either(Neither company)

    But I have contacted them both, informed them of meter readings and paid so it's up to them now. My electric for two months came in at around £40 so if it stays roughly the same as now it looks as though my gas and electric combined averages out at around £35 per month.

    And at the end of the year they are supposed to pay me £100 discount so that means I will have spent approx £320 annually mind I am extremely thrifty and have never used as little electric and gas in my life.

    At least it doesn't look like I am spending £100 a month as they thought I may(I hope that is so)and the lowest I was quoted was £65 a month so I will be so happy if I really can manage to keep that up.

    It annoys me in one way but you do feel you have achieved something.
