bbbbrrrrrrrr. It's freezing today. I am determined not to put the heating on until November the 1st - but it's been really cold recently :(

Hot water bottle and fleece blanket etc helps in the evenings when watching tv. Just as well my DH doesn't mind my cold feet in bed!!!

Sounds good. I am already wearing thermal tracksuit bottoms underneath my jeans and am still jiggling my legs. I have reduced my energy consumption to the bare minimum.

Don't people who eat oily fish feel the cold less. The omega three allows the cell membranes to be more fluid and therefore more active at lower temperatures. So less saturated fats and cholesterol and more cheap sardines and other oily fish I think.

There was a story of an Icelandic fisherman who went overboard and swam back to the mainland. Took him a day and a half or more and he survived because of his size, he kept moving but also because of his high fish diet. It was published in readers digest (quite) a few years ago.

Might take a good few weeks of eating the stuff though but were lacking in Omega 3 anyway as a population.

    Well...in that case...thats me jiggered then.....:rotfl:

NO CHANCE! There are some "prices" too high to pay - and thats one of them.

<wanders off with visions crossing my mind of some Government Minister with a death wish telling us all to put on a coat or two of "fat" to keep warm....errrr....you would all come and visit me in jail wouldnt you when I'd visited said "idiot" and expressed my feelings appropriately about that "helpful" suggestion?.> LOL

Thats it..... the heating is on!!! I've been in all day with a stinking cold and feel terrible and need warming up. Also, my washing has been out all day and its still damp so that needs a helping hand:o . To compensate, is just so happens the OH is eating out for free tonight with one of his suppliers and I'm throwing left overs together to make a cheap supper. (fish, pots & veg all being steamed over the water boiling my eggs for my sarnies tomorrow!!) Also, for once... the dishwasher isn't going on tonight. Does all that cancel out the heating costs??

  • I put mine on about an hour ago and my oh just noticed and came and turned the thermostat down to 15, the cheapskate. He still thinks it is not cold but he didn't have to scrape the frost this morning as it is his day off. I have my feet in my uggs and they are still cold.

    everyone

I find sitting with no heat doing my studies or watching Tv very difficult as the room Thermometer says 16 C . Sometimes after an hour of CH it goes up to 19 and its ok.

So what temp do you think we should all be able to cope wrapped up well at home when we are not being active?

Do you think 18 is ok or will we try harder at 16?

Many thanks for all your wonderful helpful advice and ideas.
it is truly inspiring... :T :A

pretz - we are lucky like that too

my little boys rooms main wall attaches us to next doors flat behind us, then our bedroom attaches to the other flat next door and we havea neighbour above us and considering our room doesnt get much light and the radiator has been broken since we moved in we have never had to have any other form of heating in there.:D

also we are the only ones in our block of flats 2 up 2 down adn same set up on the back of us - that applied for the warm fron tgrant so we have cavity wall insulation too :D
