Is your heating ON or OFF?

We've had the heating on for the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately! I was trying to avoid putting it on until november, even with my 11 mth old DS, he is happy with socks, jeans, vest, jumper and cardigan. But my DH comes home and comments on how cold the house is. I told him the other day to put a pair of trousers on! to be fair he is working out in the cold, so when he comes home, he probably has the cold in his bones. But I have turned the thermostat down to the bare minimum and turned the radiators down to the lowest point.
My DH said to me the other day, so we can't afford to have the heating on now?
Oh to be able to afford to emigrate....0 -
People may laugh when you say that but they are brilliant.
I had one of those 10 years ago when I was pregnant and it was brilliant.
It had a fleecy lining but no feet in the bottom which is good as you didn't wear the feet out and could just wear slippers with it.
I'm not sure who made them as I go mine from one of those end of line catalogue shops.0 -
Housebug - who is your friend supplied by??
reason being is i dont have a direct debit but they set up a card payment account where i set an amount that i have to pay on the card every month (i have one for gas - £50, and one for electric - now £30) and i cna do this either gradually over the month so it equates to teh right amount or as one payment - i can also change the limit if i like but it obviously depends on your friends bills. I upped my electric as i ws only paying £15 and my quarterly bill came to £82 so i need to put £30 for 3 months to cover it - wonder if that would be a better way for your friend to do it
oh btw im with sw@lec:money:Time to find me again0 -
Oh to be able to afford to emigrate....
My husband lived in Gibraltar for a few years and has always said he would move out to Spain tomorrow if it wasn't for our 10 year old.
I haven't a clue what he thinks he would do work wise as he can't speak Spanish (although he does look it!).
People are clammering for rental property so I was winding him up saying we could let our house out and use the rent to pay rent out there when our mortage is paid off.
Was only joking but I think he thinks I meant it.
:rolleyes:0 -

They were a bit like those but I think mine were probably thicker, didn't have feet in and had elasticated cuffs at the ankles and wrists.
I suppose you are talking about £30 including delivery if not a little more.
Bit out of my price range but they do look warm.0 -

does this mean our bodies are burning more calories in the effort to keep warm????
i have this image of all us mse`rs unwrapping and merging from our fleeces in the spring to all have metamorphed into gorgeous skinny girls/boys.......lol
Course it does:rotfl:
No central heating on here yet, but it hasn't been that cold so far, did have the fire on in the sitting room the other night, but that was so we could toast marshmallows
Have told ds that yes he will be feeling cold if he wanders around in t-shirt and shorts! dds have all taken to cuddling together under the throws and fleeces I bought for the sofas, not sure whether they're cold or they just like snuggling up with each other!
Not that warm here today at all, and there was a definite bite this morning when I woke up and got out of bed, but wearing a dress today and not frozen yet! Perhaps I'm just getting hardier? Doubt it'll be long before the kids start moaning for the central heating, but first will need to get someone out to relight the boiler I guess
Meanwhile I invested in a new pair of Eeyore slippers yesterday, not only do they keep my feet warm, they make me smile when i look at them :rotfl:GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Thanks for all the suggestions folks. I've sent them onto B. and am waiting rather anxiously to hear how they make out.0

Or we'll get fatter in an attempt in insulate ourselves from the cold :rotfl: :rotfl:0 -
everyone but EVERYONE should be reading their meters on a regular basis so that they don`t get such a nasty shock when a read bill comes in. Too many people are living with their heads in the sand, every estimated bill says that the correct readings can be phoned in for an up to date bill.
Estimated bills if on the low side add up and wham people get hammered with a massive increase in the dd. What looks like a lower bill at the time is only delaying the inevitable
tbh it is also about taking personal responsibility0 -

that's what my mum used to say - if you went out in a short skirt you'd end up with fat legs (and of course everything our mums tell us is always true )weaving through the chaos...0
