  • I am pleased to report that my new cheapo (2.99) hotwater bottle from Poundstretchers which I sewed a lovely fleece cover for last night was still warm when I woke up this morning. When I was a child, they used to go cold overnight, but we didn't have covers in those days. Covered hotties are a new-fangled thing, but make a huge difference.

It is very cold outside, but Fridays are a work-at-home day so I can stay snug and wear what I like (and no hassle from my boss)! I only went outside briefly to feed the birds and am now working in my home office (bed) with a flask of coffee.

I'm experimenting with just keeping the solid fuel stove ticking over - the gas CH hardly gets any use. I don't think it's cheaper as the fuel is so expensive but at least the house feels toasty warm when I get up in the morning.:T

The way we look at this issue is that we have bought in all the coal and the wood and that was paid upfront, with the odd lod garnered along the way for free from the fields. So what we are burning has already been allocated and we are not getting another bill at the end of it! We also bought all our coal and logs in during the summer months and stacked it away at the summer discounted prices. Whatever other heat we use - gas - will be cut down on the consumption and save us along the way.

Anyway, thats the way we look at it! Heating is still on and it was -7 here last night!

Glad we left the heating on before leaving for work today. Snow storm here now and -5, which means it will struggle to keep warm when surrounded by snow.

Also, I think we have lost the benefit of heat from our neighbours below us. They just bought their own place, and have been busy decorating it, and haven't been in the apartment much so no heating on.

Don't overdo things LIR and get that wood-burner roaring and snuggle up to the livestock.

There's nothing like having a cold home to get you up and about doing jobs. Baking next so I hope the oven warms the kitchen up a bit. I've been sidling up to the window as it's bright sunlight here and I can feel the heat coming through the glass.

Thermo's on 10 degrees and the heating is not going on until this evening. Nosireebob.

Did anyone buy one of those fleece blankets they've had on special at L!dl? I bought one a couple of years ago and it's at least three times thicker than the cheap ones at !kea or @sda. Worth every penny

I went out to the shops instead. Then painted an out side wall. Inside feels warmer now.
