Is your heating ON or OFF?

Heating is on here which is being interspersed by the fuel burner. Forecasting it could get down to minus ten tonight. Keeping an eye on this as we may just turn down the thermostat and keep the heating on constant. We have done this in the past and we have not used any more fuel as a result.
It also saves the boiler from going into overdrive when it comes on at 5.30am to bring the house back up to temperature.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

I am hoping to make my own draught excluders using an old pillow case as the cover, but not sure what to use to fill them with- any suggestions?
I just bought a cheap pillow ( well pair) for £2.89 and they were ones that bounce back so filler doesn't go flat and already have used some of the stuffing not only for the draught excluder but for knitting toys for grandchilden. Pillows have to be made fire safe and are washable so perfect ( for me) for both. I didn't have any old tights or old clothes that could be cut up - wearing them :rotfl:Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Thanks for the tip!
I have just had a look on here http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/jan/05/how-to-make-draught-excluder and it seems quite easy to do, and even cheaper if i buy some cheap pillows to fill them with!!0 -

What makes you think that a central-heating boiler can go into "overdrive"? It's either on and pumping water round the system, off and still pumping water or off completely. Boilers are designed to work and there is no such thing as "overdrive". But there is such a thing as heating your house unnecessarily when you're in bed for instance. Just adjust the timer to come on a bit earlier in the morning. Or an hour earlier if you can't stand waiting until the house is up to the "tropical" setting before putting your dressing-gown and slippers on.0 -
Mine is on 24/7 - well comes on when temp drops below 18c but that is because I am very often to be found up all night pottering around as I either going through my not sleeping time ( like now been awake nearly 36hrs) or bodyclock upside down and I sleep during the day, but then hubby is now only working part time he is home most of it so cannot switch it off like I used to feel I could sleep. So far gas, on prepaid, no debt been on it over 20 years as way back then hubby was on cabs and so earned daily and I did not want big bills even with the extra cost of being on them ( lets just say my hubby and cabbing did not really get on so trying to save up for bills was not really an option, he had to go out and earn the next days food, bills and gas/electric money) and now we are so used to them I don't want to change especially now our income has gone down. We at the moment are putting in £15pw for gas - HW/CH/GH and £10pw for electric - everything else including oven. This is actually half of what we used to put in before we had the CH with combi boiler put in as only had one gas fire( which costs a fortune to run and only still in as cannot afford a new one and its back up) in LR and everywhere else heated by electric heaters and calor gas. Its also less than we were putting in last year as house is better insulated this year, nothing major extra just bubble wrap on windows, all curtains now lined, small things but enough to make a difference. Last year will did put the thermostat up to 21-22 a lot as house never seemed warm enough but is now. This might seem obscene to many on here but I am pleased with how much less we are putting in and if I can ever get back to normal sleeping pattern then it will go off at night as dogs have a nice big thick bed and lots of blankets to snuggle under and I used to give them as us hot water bottles. I can take a bit of cold but then body stiffens and pain gets far worse so just wrapping up in layers doesn't stop that, I have tried.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

The temp in the flat plummeted a whole degree from 10 to 9 overnight. Can't understand it as I've huge single-glazed windows. It's crept back to 10 again so that must be a combination of me breathing plus the computer being on or, more likely, both my neighbours have their heating on the Sahara setting. I might just be a daredevil and pop the heating on for a bit later. Got three fleeces on now and am feeling pretty snug, so it'll just be for a modest indulgence, really.
My little cat Stanley is still enjoying his/my hot-water bottle in his little bed, I think he's been welded to it. I've been a good and attentive cat-slave today and refilled it twice already. I've barely seen him at all, maybe he's boiled himself alive?0
