I think it perhaps feels better this year as we have new french doors in the LR whereas last years horrible wooden ones were damaged and really draughty. I have electric storage heaters until landlord puts central heating in in January so trying to hold off where possible as the electric gets eaten up by the heaters.
Why does everyone burn candles??
There amasing my LR is now 20c all due to Candles.0 -

must get a draft excluder for the front door, its where the cold and draft is coming from
Roll up some old newspapers or an old towel or something and put that next to the gap in the meantime. Push it against the door as hard as you can.:)Felines are my favourite

Still off in this house!
I am starting to waver though as last night the bedroom felt a little damp. I may just have it go on for a hour in the evening to warm it through.0 -
Never thought of candles! Have just lit two in the living room to see if it makes any difference. The dog is very taken with them - they're in glass candle vases on the hearth and he's just lying looking at them like he's hypnotised! Very funny to see.
Had the heating on for 1 hour about 5pm to take the chill off the house and have closed all of the upstairs doors and the living room door (usually sort of open plan downstairs).0 -
Just lit my colour changing candle (half price as seen on grabbit board) the boys are mesmerised by it.

Don't think two candles will do it,i have six tea lights and two piller candles burning at the moment, for my size room it seems to do the trick.0 -
Our heating is still off. I do light a couple of candles in the lounge in the evening though & I swear it helpsNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0

I have resisted this morning. I think it becomes a habit and a state of mind 'oh, it's nearly November, must have heating on'. The fact of the matter is we just can't afford to think like that.
My sofa's are now in their winter position, i.e. in the middle of the room away from all the radiators to take full advantage of the warmth when the heating is on. Bring it on - I have plenty of socks!0 -
Hi all,
Our heating is still off. We have a log burner and a farm full of wood so we keep the log burner in all night which heats the lounge and upstairs. The bedrooms which share the chimney are red hot because the wall is continually hot. If i let the burner go out and let the walls cool down then we'll be in trouble lol.Women who suffer from Domestic Violence are not victims.... They are survivors....
