Thanks for the tip about the Tesco's 50p thermometers, got down there and there just just an empty box where they had been, checked behind and there were a few left at the back! Mines currently reading 16 degrees in the office at home, there's definitely a cold edge to the room, but fine with my hot water bottle and fleece blanket, not looking forward to getting in the shower though! Our heating is firmly off, OH is supportive of my anti-heating thing, he's fine, I feel the cold quite a bit (I'm only 26 but not a lot to me so it seems to go straight to the bones!)
Anyway, whoever asked for under £4 hot water bottles, 'Savers' currently have them for £2 - they were £1.50 last month when I bought my first one, but went back for a second today and they'd put them up 50p the cheeky beggars! Still good price though, though don't try the shop in Braintree as I had the last one :rotfl:0 -
ON for a couple of hours the last few nights as I was so cold, and today looked in my loft (upstairs flat, newly rented) to find NO insulation there :eek::eek:
Can you believe it!?!
So I have arranged for a survey for a free grant, on finding that you can apply if you are just renting so long as you qualify which I do fortunately. They come next Tuesday and until it is installed, I really do not feel like paying for heat to go straight out of the ceiling
Nice this afternoon though as I have mt deydrator going in the kitchen filled with apple slices and a pan of apple chutney on the stove, all from neighbour gluts.0 -
Well I gave in for 90 mins last night and an hour this morning. The car was frozen this morning and it was nice to get up to a warm towel and house. Its been off all day as I'm at work but will come on for an hour this evening.
Its supposed to warm up a bit again towards the weekend so hopefully this isn't a permanent thing yet.0 -
Mine is off and it's staying off for as long as possible. I just can't afford the bills without a job. Last winter was a "challenge" but I survived with only having it on for an hour in the evenings, heating just the one radiator when it was subzero outside. Now that the charges have gone up it'll have to go down to 45 minutes at a time.0

I've got the thermostats set to 17°C for getting up & both the upstairs & downstairs radiators had come on this morning, & downstairs came on again this evening... So I guess I now have the heating on. I've made a note on the calendar so I can try to beat it next year!0

I put the gas fire on in the living room for a couple of hours last night and half an hour this morning when DS getting ready for school. Is on now again very low just to take the edge off, but don't want to venture into putting the heating on until the last possible minute. Waiting to get a few radiators replaced too so would like to wait until they are done. I only have the hot water on for an hour or so 2 or 3 times a week as it is, have a dishwasher for washing up, and use the shower for washing or warm water in the bathroom. I'm on IS at the moment until boyf moves in just before baby due so trying to save as much as I can at the moment.Little lady arrived 13/12/110

Off at the moment!
We had it on for three hours last night and on timer this morning (5am to 8am) and it has stayed lovely and warm in the house all day so as a result we don't need it on tonight.
It was very cold last night -2.5 degrees and a sharp frost so it was justified!!
You will all be pleased to note next week it warms up yet again and this weekend is forecast to be really good weatherwise in some parts!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

Off and hasn't been on yet this autumn/winter
Currently soup made with chicken stock from the cooking of a cheapy chicken earlier is keeping us 'centrally heated' in a way night storage never manages!
On the up
Our wedding day! 13/06/150 -
It's off again here as there has been no biting wind today so the house and more importantly me hasn't felt cold.0
