Is your heating ON or OFF?

The OH put the heating on for a short while on Saturday night, as we'd had the doors open all night (we had a barbecue). Since then, we've had it on for a couple of times to take the chill off as it has been really really chilly. In the evenings I tend to light candles for warmth and if I had my way the heating wouldn't go on until November. Still, it does prove that the central heating system works, and we'll not have any bad shocks if it didn't when we really needed it!Continually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!0

I'm so glad we had our wood burning stove fitted last month. I've been full of a cold this week and even with socks on my feet are freezing but the woodburner is keeping me nice and warm and means we can keep the CH off. We're finding lots of free wood too so although we've had to pay for some this year we can hopefully stockpile enough free wood for next0

It looks like it's going to be getting used more often from now. Hubby works outside in the cold and wet, (and he brings home the logs) and he's on higher ground, so I can't grudge him a bit of heat in an evening.
I'm not buying coal yet though. Hopefully I can hold out on that one until november, even then it'll only be to supplement the logs.
Sounds like you've got a good set up there. You aren't gas dependant!0 -
Haven't touched it yet, although I was tempted to yesterday when I was working at home - feet were frozen! Probably will have to put it on sometime soon, but the longer I can hold out, the better.0

I am still aiming for 1st November, but it has been really chilly here the last few days, brrrr.I have 2 fleeces on at the moment, but my hands are still cold,I think I shall have to get some fingerless gloves to wear while I am on the PC.
I changed to my winter duvet the other day so I am lovely and warm at night.I also put a fleecey throw on my sofa and I was surprised at how much warmer I felt in an evening while watching TV.0 -
No heating on here!
Although I'm attempting to last until November 1st, I decided that if the kids complained of being cold, I would relent (unless of course they were not suitably dressed!)
So far, it is ok. It is a bit chilly in the mornings but we just get up, get ready and get out! While I'm at home during the day, I keep busy and the kids are in bed before it's too cold. I just snuggle up with a fleece on and blanket and duvet slippers on!:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -
We too are aiming for 1st November at the earliest - however we are having our third baby next week (if she arrives on time) and so may have to rethink as the house is freezing - especially in the mornings and the boys are I are wearing extra jumpers. Have dug out the hot water bottles too!Moving on up

I've had to succumb and turn it on, as it's turned really cold with us. The wind's coming from the North and there's snow forecast for this weekend! It's only the start of October0

Been out for a walk and that wind is COLD! The warm from that high pressure in September has definitely gone south or where ever. I've popped the fire on for an hour to take the chill off the front room. There. I broke down.0

Yep ours is on with timers and thermostat set quite low so it only fires up when it gets really icy. It kicked in this morning and I am really glad it did as it was baltic when I left the house at 7.15 and it was still dark
Fortunately we have new double glazing, well fitted composite doors, cavity wall insulation and loft insulation so once it gets to temp its stays that way for wuite some time.
I lived in a house for 9 years with no central heating or centralair, huge single glazed windows in every room, wooden framed ill-fitting doors and no wall or loft insulation so I know the true meaning of being really cold. We used to have floor length curtains at every window and internal door and just shut ourselves in one room in the evening with draught excluders everywhere0
