We have seen a slight thaw today. It is still very icy underfoot. I've just put the heating on, the temperature has dropped, if it freezes tonight it is going to be really bad tomorrow morning. Please take care everyone.

The argument about leaving the kettle on 24/7 is a bit of an odd thing.
Many hot water tanks are kept hot 24/7 and certainly the coffee pots at restuarants and canteens are kept hot for long periods.

Heating is needed continuously in cold weather, boiling kettles are not.

If I used my old immersion heater on all day the electric bill would have been phenomenal. Luckily I now have a combi boiler with hot water on tap and that is definitely more cheaper.

Yes, electricity is 3x the price of gas.

I have a new super A rated combi with modulating flame and all the do -dads.

I prefer my old floorstanding G rated with a water cylinder.
I used to leave it on 24/7 just ticking away, never broke down and cost me a lot less to keep.

The new one uses less gas, but is only expected to last 10 years instead of the 30 the last one did.
I also have to have a service contract for the new fangled thing, the old one cost me about £40 in repairs in its whole lifetime.

We've got 6º at the moment, and it's noticibly warmer. I even have washing on the line - mind you, it has to either be freezing or raining for me not to put it out.

It's not moving much, as there's barely any wind here, but it'll have done enough so that all I need to do is air it when it comes in. You can't beat the smell of washing that's dried on the line. I hate drying washing indoors, and I can't afford to use the tumble dryer.

So far, even with all the snow and freezing whether we've had, I've been lucky enough to get all the washing (bedding included) dry - or as near as dammit - on the line.

I try to wash a towel at a time (rather than a load) in with my other washing, and so far have managed to finish them off on or in front of the radiators.

Just done my daily 1½mile round trip to the shops, and - admittedly my bags and backpack were very heavy - I was actually sweating when I got back!..............it's been a few weeks since I've done any of that! lol

    I've been Money Tipped!
OFF! Hurrah! Its amazing to see green outside, I'd forgotten colour!

We've really chugged through oil though. :( Our supplier - who I want to stick with for the repeat client discount, can't refill before NY. I'm pretty sure we've got enough, but the weather makes be want to be prudent so I'mlad its mild today. :)

I dont have any heating in my house apart from a superser that i bought 3 weeks ago. It takes the chill off just but my house is so cold i could cry and this is despite lying on settee with 2 fleece blankets and a hot water bottle. I can see my breath most days and my tea gets cold in a very short space of time. Will be looking into getting central heating for next year but may still be too expensive and doesnt help for this year. Had a slight thaw today but still very cold.
