Turned the heating off last night as it feels a lot milder here at the moment.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
NSD Challenge: October 0/140 -
combi boiler got it's annual service yesterday and I asked about tips on saving gas, apparently my boiler was set up incorrectly and was actually using more gas
I had the thermostat on my boiler down low and the radiator thermostats set at between 5 and 3 throughout the house, have been advised to turn the boiler up higher and the radiator thermostats lower as this stops the boiler kicking in all the time0 -
We last had the heating on on Thursday evening, been much more bearable tonight than last night but fingers crossed we can wait until it goes to minus figures over night
my imeasure figures should be much lower this week
More to spend on the kids at christmas!0 -
I've been turning it down/off during this mini mild spell, but have still found it a bit cold mornings and evenings.
Hoping to save a few bob so I can turn it on in the next cold spell which is just around the corner.
I feel really sorry for anyone that can't afford adequate heating this winter, it's been very harsh so far.
Keep as warm as you can afford.0 -
Our heating is on low 24/7 but it's such a draughty house so we don't feel cosy. Yesterday I bought a jumbo roll of duct tape, so today I'm going to go round all the windows and tape them up.
I don't know if anybody listens to Simon Mayo, but one of his "Homework Sucks" questions last week was whether it was cheaper to have the heating on low all the time, or to have it come on a couple of times a day. One of the listeners said that he'd been talking to 4 heating engineers about it that very day and the opinions were split 50/50 - so there's no real hope of us mere mortals knowing the answer!0 -

I'm airing the house really well today while the sun is shining...as well as being more comfortable it certainly feels more effective...replacing inside dank air with outside damp air is fresh, but not as refreshing IYSWIM.0 -
Hope everyone is using the mildish spell to re-stock and gird your old style loins for the next onslaught of weather.
I got off very lightly in the last spell, very cold but little snow and no disruption at all. Hope this spell is not too harsh and we can all get through it without major incidents.
Keep warm and safe everyone.0 -
As other members have said we are in for snow next week again plus very cold temperatures to go with it.........I done a bit xmas shopping today and everywhere was packed so I guess people are getting it done before the weather take a down turn ........at least we are warned what to expect.....0

The chat on weather forums has been to get everything done by 16th Dec as that's when it's meant to get mean and dirty!
Don't know if it will be as bad as they think, but I'm going to aim to get all the posting, shopping and food in by 16th and just have the food prep and wrapping home presents and cleaning (ugh!) left to do indoors while the weather is poor.
If it turns out better weather than they predict, then I'll fire up the BBQ and get the sun lotion out.0
