We've really chugged through oil though. Our supplier - who I want to stick with for the repeat client discount, can't refill before NY. I'm pretty sure we've got enough, but the weather makes be want to be prudent so I'mlad its mild today.
I've just put in an order for oil today. We aren't anywhere near critical, but I knew there would be a bit of a wait at this time of year. Delivery date is 4th Jan!0 -
had to put ours for kids getting home on as it got to 12 degrees in living room and colder upstairs. Oddly enough it feels colder today than the last few days!!
Up to 18 now so kids warm.

Positively tropical here today - PLUS 6 - compared to minus six the past week
Just lit the fire as although Im not cold right now - the fog is moving in and it will get cold fast. Half a bucket banked in will have the house toastie for when i get in from work come 10pm
You know I could cry at times reading this thread. Its a disgrace that for so many of us heating is now a luxury, that so many of us cant afford any, and even more are having to be very frugal with it
And what really is upsetting is I cant see it getting any better not with the price hikes we have - esp us oil users0 -
Mines been on low for ages now, i can`t read the gas meter as the little plastic window is all full of condensation GRR! I dug away all the snow so that i could get to it too!
In a way i`m glad as we have had so much snow here it was incredible, we have had no burst pipes (hope i`ve not jinxed that now) so its a case of so far so good. The outside temp has been as low as minus 11.9 degrees
I have a prehistoric back boiler which hasn`t needed anything doing for years. I know that the new ones are more economical to run but replacing something that doesn`t need it would be money wasted as far as i`m concerned. Hope that it carries on being as reliable.
If it ever does need replacing then we`ll stick with a back boiler as we have no wall space for a combi, the hot water is heated in about 20 mins but we don`t use it very often. We also have a back up of an immersion heater and an electric shower which is used daily and the back boiler has a gas fire front so if one thing does break then there is always something else to use instead :j
When it gets to meter reading time at the end of the month i shall have to do what i did last winter and get a hairdryer outside on an extension cable and warm up the plastic cover to read the numbers on the gas meter
Keep wrapped up peeps.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Mine is off, as it's broken
The british gas man says its a miracle it didn't kill us all last winter, thank you previous occupants!
We are reliant on two oil filled radiators, one up, one down and an electric shower. Needless to say i'm very glad to see the back of the cold spell if only briefly!0 -

I dont know if you asked your oils supplier what their prices are right now, but on our local news channel night before last viewers were fuming cos they asked for oil to come but it had gone up from 45 p ltr to a massive 69 p per ltr......
How can they justify those ridiculous prices, they said its because of supply and demand , and crude oil prices............theres always someone out there to make a quick buck at other peoples exspenses......they know we all need fuel of some sort.......not only that the suppliers have it in their depots at the old price....:eek:
They think of a number and double it, so now I expect gas and elec prices to rise.......0 -

I didn't check how much it costs - I just filled in the on-line form. I'm in credit with them by nearly £430, so I won't be faced with a bill.
They can justify those prices because they know they can get away with it. It's as simple as that. Either you pay up or you freeze.0 -
