I dont have any heating in my house apart from a superser that i bought 3 weeks ago. It takes the chill off just but my house is so cold i could cry and this is despite lying on settee with 2 fleece blankets and a hot water bottle. I can see my breath most days and my tea gets cold in a very short space of time. Will be looking into getting central heating for next year but may still be too expensive and doesnt help for this year. Had a slight thaw today but still very cold.

Is there some way you can reduce the space the superser is meant to heat, on full blast it can kick out a good 4kw which is really enough to heat two average rooms.

Keeping it on low wouldn't really heat 5x2x4m room (ave size) as it's 1kw on low and you would need at least 1.5kw to heat that space to 21C , so the medium setting would probably do it, especially if it's draught proofed.

    I've been Money Tipped!
We're planning to come off oil longterm, as part of the refurb of our house. Its scary looking at prices to make the leap to renewables too, because the bill for installations is so huge, but at least you know what it is at the beginning...its possible to budget a little more, bar repairs, for energy over a long time.
  • Wahey, we have heating! Our oil delivery came today, a week after we ordered it, which is pretty good.

I could have cried last night, I was so cold and so fed up. I am normally very frugal with the central heating but not having any at all is a very different story. The house seemed to get colder and colder each day - even as the weather warmed up. I went to bed last night in a fleece and with so many blankets I could hardly move.

Being cold is horrible, all I have been able to think about in the last couple of days is getting warm and last night all I wanted to do was go to bed, would have gone at 8pm if I had been on my own. Sorry if all this sounds totally pathetic but I feel so sad that there are people on this website without decent heating - or have heating that they cant afford to run.

Absolute priorities for us now are cavity wall insulation and a new back door - we have realised how badly these two are needed, even if money is tight. We are also going to have to make this oil delivery stretch, with the prices they are charging at the moment.

No chance of discarding the thermals and 2 jumpers just yet, especially if it gets really cold again.
  • 7 degrees in London today. Heating came on this morning for an hour as usual and I was absolutely boiling when I woke up!! No more heating for a while!

  • Yep, it feels very mild today so all of the windows have been flung wide-open to give the place a good airing. I think it's gong to feel a bit chilly later so I'll probably put the heating on for an hour or two as late as I can bear.

It's going to get a lot colder from tomorrow by all accounts.

This morning our cat refused to come and sleep with us because the bedroom was too cold! He tried to settle in with us, but the chilly breeze coming in from the window kept disturbing him so he ran off grumbling to find a warm corner to snuggle into.

I s'pose we should have let him under the duvet?! :rotfl:

Shortest day soon then spring is just around the corner, hopefully. Just these last couple of days when it has been slightly warmer made me feel better, windows open, heating off for abit and a couple of long walks soon cheered me up. Hope the next cold spell does'nt bring us any snow.
