It's good that they're useful for something isn't it?
oi don't be so derogatory, men have other uses too... reaching high shelves (some will even install said shelves!), taking out the rubbish, fumigating the house for vermin (some call it being windy) and they're great rubbish disposal units most will eat darn near anything :rotfl:
i ditched my 'hot man' and now my 9 year old daughter sleeps with me on the coldest nights... lovely to cuddle and she doesn't hog the covers or fart in bed (or i don't smell it if she does!) :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Heaven knows how you lot that are suffering temps of -10 and under are coping. Yesterday it maxxed out at -2, and quickly dropped back to -6 here, the local BBC weatherman said it was the lowest daytime temperature for over 50 years.
In our semi, we have the heating set at 18deg and it comes on for 1/2 hour before we get up and we have it on for no more than 3 hours in the evening, but still feeling the cold.
As I work from home I am using a small gas camping heater, for which I have loads of small cannisters that I have built up over a couple of years, but if I had to buy them new, they would work out expensive.
Have done of bit of research re the weather, a respected astrophysicist Piers Corbyn turned weather forecaster (who did go against the grain and predicted last January's cold snap) has also predicted this winter to be one of the 3 coldest for 100 years! Always sceptical with anything that any 'expert' tells us, but lets hope he's wrong.
See the forecast here if interested http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHPooN0DZ5Y&feature=recentu
Regardless going to stock up on a few cans of this and that, and fill the freezer up just in case!
To put to bed the debate on if its cheaper to keep the heating on low all day, next week going to do a little experiment and leave my heating on low during the day and track my useage, and compare to a normal week of 3 and a half hours per day, will report back on my findings!0 -
Heating been on since 30th nov but as low as i can get away with i know heat rises but i don't get why upstairs is warmer than down heating on thermostat when i'm home set at 16 when i go out if i remember i drop it to 10 so when i get in it will be warmer than outside but not too warm waiting to move a table so i can read gas meter and enter readings online to get my bill also THANKS TO SOMEONE ONE ON HERE OR PREPARING FOR WINTER THREAD I put my readings on imeasure it is helping as the tower thing is easier to follow when my head really bad and cant concentrate on numbers hoping to have a few days with heating off soon so can save for next really cold spell lowest here -7 that ive seen on outside thermometor weve still got the white frost after the freezing fog it was -6 this morning2nd purse challenge no040£0 Sealed pot challenge ???? £2 trolley find not counting small coins till end year0

our tonne of wood pellets arrived today and what a brilliant day for them to arrive, sunny and non slip, so we made short work of moving them all into the garage. They are packed in 10 kg bags so are easy to handle. Its so psychologically good to know that our fuel for winter and beyond is all tucked away. It isn`t as cold thermometerwise but it feels very cold now I am sitting down. I started knitting again so that`ll keep me warm anyway0

When I was a student I used to have the heating on 1 hour a day, but it got real coooold, use to sit in bed, with a coat on and watch telly. A little warmth is essential now, so heating on all day. But we did get a new boiler which is supposed to 98% effecient or something crazy like that.Save, spend, save, spend, save, spend, spend spend!!!0

Well its absolutely freezing again here today,,woke up to - 5 freezing fog, then it decided to rain...:eek:on top of a severe frost:eek: that dont make for very good driving and walking conditions........ Suppose to warm up to 7 degrees at the weekend, then it goes back to wintry showers with night frost again...looks like we are in for a very long cold winter ...
I think that the cold spell that we are having now has been colder than Jan/Feb 2010...??perhaps its my amagination ..... but it feels like it though......I bet the poor folks in Scotland KNOW its more colder this time a round......I sure feel for all of you up north.....0 -

I know what you mean when you say your wood stock is in and paid for, I feel that way with my gas and elec as im well in credit, and knowing what ever weather we get this winter im well prepared, its not nice going cold ........we woke up to -5 and severe frost, but then it started to rain at 7.30 , it was like a ice rink everywhere, so dangerous.......0 -
Not so cold today.Heating on very low,OH been working here all day in conservitory where it gets very cold ,i know he must have been feeling chilly because he has a sweat shirt on,so did'nt mind it being on to much,it's when he only has a T-Shirt on and switches heating on i get cross.Hopfully when we are in living room tonight with doors shut and candles burning i will be able to turn off and recoup some of the cost back.0

just wondering what temperature people have their boiler for heating and hot water set at??
new to renting and this flat does not have a thermostat on the wall just boiler temp and then each radiator has own setting 1-5. So any suggestions on keeping bills down much appreciated.
thanx in advance
