Off!would be great tohave more south facing windows on a day like this! Its beautiful in the sun,one step away from it and its still not warm! My chickens are all sunbathing in a line, in a thin beam of sunlight into a barn. They look like its bliss!

Do be careful everyone,if you need heat to think about it before the sun goes down as it might well get cold very quickly.

Our living area is south facing and the entire back wall is a window, it is really warm when the sun is out, I'm here in a vest and shorts this afternoon. As soon as the sun goes in it's freezing. I enjoy the free heat while it's here though.

despite 3 ft of snow outside , sadly mine is off as oil cant be delivered till new year:eek: due to weather conditions and back log of orders

i went to collect a bit yesterday in containers could only get 50 ltres though and it was SOooooooooooooooo expensive i shant do that again ..

only have a weeks worth left in tank so am being extra extra careful with what i have left and only using it sparingly

heres hoping the backlog clears sooner and we can be toastie warm again

mind you when i think back to childhod there was only a coal fire to heat whole house so central heating and radiatore have mad e os wussies ;)

When I used to live in a house heated by oil, I always had a list of ½ a dozen suppliers, and every time I was almost out of oil, I would ring all 6 to see who could give me the cheapest quote.

The prices I was quoted always differed by £10 or so, but could often differ by up to £20-£25 per delivery (I'm talking over 10 years ago here) and the company who were cheapest for my last order, weren't necessarily cheapest for my next one. It definitely paid to shop around, and it never hurt to tell them upfront that I had a list of 6 companies to call and whoever was the cheapest would get my custom.

If your current oil supplier cannot see their way clear of supplying you before the new year for goodness sake! - might it be worth ringing around other oil suppliers who deliver to your area, and see if any of them can a) deliver it before the new year & b) are more competitive in price?

    Just a thought :)

Thanks for the advice :) They are not open until Tuesday but we managed to get a taxi to the nearest town this afternoon and buy a 10kg bag of coal & a bag of logs and tomorrow a family member is going to drop a heater off for us and try and source more coal, in the meantime we have moved some mattresses into the diningroom and are all huddled in there keeping warmish. The landlord is usually ok but he is away and his wife is dealing with it all just now, she wouldlt like boiling a kettle to get hot water but she thinks its a viable exception for us!

Well I'm very glad you're sorted . Your landlord isn't as OK as you think he is.
11 days to sort out heating in this weather is unreasonable.

If he has brought some sort of heat source then that would be acceptable, but to provide no heating source at all is actually illegal,

He should offer you a rent reduction for the inconveneience. Put it to Her Majesty and see how she likes it.:D

Due for -6 here tonight and freezing fog, that will make all the slush on the roads frozen and reduced visibility. Not a good mix, a night for twinx munching, hot drinking chocolate and the telly methinks.

On most of the time now. I am having a bit of a struggle to keep DH from turning the bedroom radiator on too. I hate it when the house gets too warm as it dries my airways and makes me cough. In the night the air is so dry (even with the bedroom radiator off) that I have to open a window, even in these snowy days!

The other day DD was standing in one room saying brrrrr this is really cold and only wearing a t-shirt! Is my family a bunch of softies or am I too spartan?
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Caterina, do I remember correctly that yu are Italian? I found a huge culture difference between heating etc when I was in Italy. Much more emphasis in dressing for the weather ...impressively and greatly so when it came to dressing children.

Caterina - I so agree with you. I hate overheated dry air and I'd love to share a home with someone who felt the same way. My DH thinks I should sit around in a swimsuit so that he can wear light clothing indoors - I think he should just put on another jumper!

I'm sooooo lucky this year - we moved to a new apartment in October and it's unbelievably warm compared to anywhere else I've ever lived - I'm sitting here now with just two layers of clothes (cotton top, cardigan, leggings, slippers) and NO heating on at all.

Great stuff, save it for when you need it, plenty more of the winter left to go.

It's freezing here tonight, so the heating is on low, but I have had the heating off for a few hours this afternoon while it was a bit milder.

I have to laugh tho' it was +1C and I considered it mild, shows you what we've been used recently.
