Is your heating ON or OFF?

I think clothing in the home is an interesting point of how we tackle keeping heating bills down or not! I would never mean to let the house get so I'm wearing a scarf in the house but sometimes when I come in from the yard or field in the morning I forget to take of my fleece neck warmer, its surprising how much difference it makes when I realise and take it off.
I do wear thermals, i.e. long johns under clothes daily now often a vest too, and socks and very warm slippers in the house. And today a hoodie, often a jumper or a big cardigan instead. when I go out again, and I go out on and off to feed animals or check things or whatever, through out the day I add a very dishevelled by still warm jacket, the neck warmer or fleece hat and scarf blaclava combo thing and sometimes a hat too. And gloves with sometimes with fingerless gloves over too ATM! I put all the head gear on in the house, the rest as I walk out, because otherwise it would take ages. Though the loo is outside its on the clean dry porch, so I just nip out without getting all dressed up.
I have blankets, and now a duvet, on the sofa for breaks/tv watching/paperwork etc. My cats like to snuggle under things and I have a room I can chuck these into if someone arrives a the door
Any way heating now on, and warming up the hot water for a bath, then into clean thermals and nightclothes for the evening:D

I've not a lot of choice to be honest - unless I want a huge gas bill that I can't afford to pay next year.
You are fortunate to have that option.Aug11 £193.29/£240

I think my post possibly wasn't clear and sounded as if I was critical of cold houses for whatever reason, which couldn't be less true!
what I'm saying is that often its cold enough for me not to that I notice I'm still not wearing a scarf. We've had ice on the inside of windows a few times now this year and I am lucky you are right, but I CHOOSE to be tight on heating because I'd rather have the money for other things...like fixing our house and getting the outdoor loo moved indoors sometime in the future! with no children, no elderly and only the animals and me here on weekdays heating, bar for the bath and heating in the evening (the two are linked here) is a sacrifice I feel it easier in MY situation to make than for most people. Furthermore, I'm kind of oppose to wasteful heating: I would feel ''wrong'' ethically even if money were not an issue ever, ''wasting'' heat to have heating on so I was wearing a vest indoors. In actual fact we first started skimping on heating for money reasons and later for health ones.
This weekend we had a wanton heating weekend because we had people here, professionals, to examine the house for work and then people for supper: another financial choice which I appreciate I'm lucky to be able to make...skimping on things like heating for me through the week means I can ''splurge'' on heating for guests and food for them0 -
Woooooooo! It's 7 in the kitchen right now. I've got thermals, a woolly and an outdoor fleece on! Brrrrr! :eek:Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0

My kitchen is warmest, the dogs have been in there, the cookers been on as today was a baking and cooking for the oven day and I had a stockpot on, so we've been huddling in there enjoying cooker heat today. Its also got lower ceilings than the rest of the house.
edit: in fact I'll stick the themomtre out and see what it is I think!0 -

Sounds heavenly! Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
Sounds heavenly!
Thanks! It is, but I can't get a temp reading. The themometre is digital and won't keep on long enough to take an accurate reading and the jam themometre obviously doesn't register.
The boiler is set to 55 farenheit ATM...so thats about 15 celcius? Its not toasty 18 but certainly but for me and critters it feels warm this evening in there!0 -
Bitter wind here but no snow, have been putting heating on last couple of days as Oh has a chest infection.Got up today after night shift to find heating on and OH sat in T-Shirt:eek:that made me so cross if he'd had a sweetshirt on with heating it wouldnt have been so bad, i think because its been on for last two days he thought he would put it on today. That set me off worrying about how we are going to manage i know sometime early next year i'm going to lose my job,OH dosnt worry like me he always says something will come along.Heating off now OH out and Ds has had his bath and gone out so i'm sat in a blanket with candles burning and dogs cuddled up to me that should save a bit.0
