Our en suite bathroom is freezing all the time, I can put the radiator on in there all day and it doesn't seem to get any warmer :( Our bedroom is a close second, and I have to put a spare duvet along my side of the bed (against the wall) at night so I don't freeze.

We've been having problems with condensation in en suite and bedroom for the first time in 5yrs over the past couple of weeks so I've been opening the windows while I do the school run and then closing them and putting the heating on for an hour or so when I get home - today when I went to shut the windows the condensation was frozen :rotfl:

Today I actually worked out how to set the timer on our boiler, only took 5yrs! Heating will now come on for an hour at 5am so hopefully wont wake up and see our breath again like last few days  And then 10-11am, and again at 9-10pm. I'm usually cooking between 4-5pm so that heats up the kitchen/living room for the evening, and if it's not warm enough we just snuggle up with duvets on the sofa.

We had a prepay gas meter put in a couple of months ago (due to EDF cancelling our payment plan for a small amount of arrears & not thinking to tell us) - we haven't dared put the heating on until this week, I have no idea how much gas it will use.

Have had the heating on low for last two days.OH has asthma and is suffering with a chest infection so it was nessacary really dont want him getting ill.I'm shocked how much extra those two days have cost i have just put readings into imesure and i have used £10 this week instead of around £3Just been round and turned rads off in bedrooms i can turn back on before bed, dont know how much this will save but every little bit helps. The weather seems set to continue and even get worse for a while getting worried now.OH says its no good getting stressed i have to think of how much we have saved over the few weeks, not that easy though.Hope everybody is ok.

My youngest must have inherited my [STRIKE]tight[/STRIKE] frugal gene. He's finally turned his on. He says he was wearing several layers of clothing, including the honcho, and his hands were still numb.:rotfl:

We've had ours on for 2 or 3 weeks, for a couple of hours in the morning and a couple in the evening, on the lowest setting, but had to increase the evening hours to 4 this week. It certainly made a difference to the amount of gas used!

My bedroom, on the 2nd/attic floor of a victorian house is currently 6C. It's the perfect room for chilling beers, I like to whack a fan heater on to get it over 10C when i'm in here for a while or my fingers stop working.
The corridor might be less as it's very open, very draughty and lined with cracked single glazed windows but I haven't measured it.

PS. I live above a fire and heating shop :rotfl:

Not quite the same, but my sister lives in Beijing, and her bathroom has no heating. Last year she had to move out a number of times over winter as the toilet froze!

The LL suggested they put an electric heater in there, bearing in mind this was a wet room where the whole room is just tiled and the shower is almost over the loo, it wasn't really an option. This year she has moved into a more modern flat and is loving the fact that she can use the bathroom at will!
  • as warm as toast thanks. i had to get hubby to turn the radiator down in the lounge as its quite near where i sit and my face was getting really hot.

im sitting here in a t shirt its lovely thanks x

I keep all the doors open & all the rads on, on a timer - 2 hours in the morning & 4 hours in the evening, 24/7 from Friday evening to Monday morning.
I make sure the room thermometer never drops below 20 when its on. Prefer it about 22.

    I HATE the cold.

    !

Our loo froze this morning.:o bit of a shock as I hadn't checked first. Our main loo is an outdoor one,so I guess its pretty cold, but its ok. You expect it to be, and not often out there for long! The pace that feels coldest is our hall and main upstairs landing. There is no heating there and this morning the ice on the glass was very, very thick. We've had frozen condensation already this winter, and frozen water at the bottom of each pane, but the ice this morning was thick, and white and solid. Its got east and south facing windows but since the onset of autumn and now winter, it feels like a cold, windy fridge.

We live in a small bungalow, all rooms about the same, don't really have a cold spot, although the whole place isn't really that warm!

I left heating on today while I was at work, turned thermostat down to 14 thinking it would heat up quicker when I got home, well it has gone up to 18 after 3 hours. Not an energy friendly bungalow lol.

lostinrates - I used to work in an office that was in a small lock up type of place, the loo was always frozen in the winter, was ok for the boss he only lived a couple of streets away and just used to say he was going home for a bit, I used to have to go out at lunch time and visit the local shops so I could have a wee!!! if my lunch clashed with his going home I had to cross me legs :rotfl:
